Does a NAFTA TN Management consultant in the U.S. still need to fill out an i-9 form even though they are an independent contractor?
Yes.You must still prove work authorization even though you are a contractor. You will fill out the I9 and indicate that you are an alien authorized to work, and provide the relevant details of your TN visa in support of your application.Hope this helps.

How do I understand the 1040 U.S. tax form in terms of an equation instead of a ton of boxes to fill in and instructions to read?
First the 1040 is an exercise in sets:Gross Income - A collection and summation of all your income types.Adjustments - A collection of deductions the tax law allow you to deduct before signNowing AGI. (AGI is used as a threshold for another set of deductions).ExemptionsDeductions - A collection of allowed deductions.Taxes - A Collection of Different collected along with Income TaxesCredits - A collection of allowed reductions in tax owed.Net Tax Owed or Refundable - Hopefully Self Explanatory. Now the formulas:[math]Gross Income - Adjustments = Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)[/math][math]AGI - Exemptions - Deductions = Taxable Income[/math][math]Tax Function (Taxable Income ) = Income Tax[/math][math]Taxes - Credits = Net Tax Owed or Refundable[/math]Please Note each set of lines is meant as a means to make collecting and summing the subsidiary information easier. It would probably be much easier to figure out if everyone wanted to pay more taxes instead of less.

U.S. Army: if I have option 40 (Ranger Option) on my contract, how long do I have to serve until I can go to RASP?
I don't have a tremendous amount of experience with rangers but I had a few buddies in Regiment back when I was stationed in Savannah. (Not even sure which BN was there.)If you have the ranger option in your contract you'll go through BCT and AIT or OSUT (one site unit training) like everyone else depending on your MOS. If you're an 11 series (infantry) you'll do your OSUT and likely go straight to RASP. If you have airborne in your contract on top of ranger you'll go straight to airborne school immediately after AIT or OSUT.You won't go straight to ranger school however, because it's the responsibility of yor chain of command at your unit in Regiment to send you there. But ranger school isn't a requirement to be in Regiment. The “Ranger Tab” is more something that rangers do as a means of elevating their legitimacy. From my understanding you have to make it though RASP before you can be assigned to Regiment.I had a buddy back in 2014 who was a 13F in Regiment and he had both the tab and a scroll from a deployment. I asked him if he had to give one up which would he keep. He told me, “I'd keep the scroll hands down.” The tab just means you graduated a school. The scroll means you deployed with Regiment and you live everyday functioning as a real Ranger.

For the new 2016 W8-BEN-E form to be filled out by companies doing business as a seller on the Amazon USA website, do I fill out a U.S. TIN, a GIIN, or a foreign TIN?
You will need to obtain an EIN for the BC corporation; however, I would imagine a W8-BEN is not appropriate for you, if you are selling through Amazon FBA. The FBA program generally makes Amazon your agent in the US, which means any of your US source income, ie anything sold to a US customer is taxable in the US. W8-BEN is asserting that you either have no US sourced income or that income is exempt under the US/Canadian tax treaty. Based on the limited knowledge I have of your situation, but if you are selling through the FBA program, I would say you don’t qualify to file a W8-BEN, but rather should be completing a W8-ECI and your BC corporation should be filing an 1120F to report your US effectively connected income.

How can I take my child (16yrs) to the U.S if my immigrant visa is approved? My husband, a US citizen, filled out form I 130 for me and mentioned this child as migrating in future.
Just petition using a I-130 yourself. Read the instructions very carefully. I am not sure but it’s possible that the affidavit of support will need to be filled by your husband since he is the citizen and he filled one for you - again, check the instructions very carefully. It should be a pretty clear, straightforward process.Your child is still well below the age limit and should be fine. If there are any problems, do the same thing you did with your own process - use the numbers you are given to check on the process and if you see it stuck call to make sure they have everything they need early. It is my understanding that the age limit of the child is based on the petition date, so go ahead and do it.You still have plenty of time at 16, just don’t delay.

In the U.S., if I am sitting on my porch, am I required to follow instructions of a police officer calling out to me from the sidewalk? Does the answer change if I am inside and he sees me through a window?
Question: “In the U.S., if I am sitting on my porch, am I required to follow instructions of a police officer calling out to me from the sidewalk? Does the answer change if I am inside and he sees me through a window?”The answer would generally be no. If he had a LEGAL authority to order you about he would likely be doing it from much closer. If he is doing it through a window then the ONLY question I have is “do you have a warrant?” if the answer is NO then the response is “GET OFF MY PROPERTY NOW! You are trespassing!” But before all that I would start recording the interaction so there is a neutral record, it isn’t like I have seen police reports riddled with falsehoods, also know as LIES..I don’t take instruction from anyone in my home. And without a warrant there will be no entry, I don’t care what they say or have to say.

I'm going to be out the U.S. Army soon and fear that won't make it on my own on civilian side. How can I affirm myself I will succeed when I get discharged honorably?
Have a plan - I suggest working as a handyman. I suspect your physically fit, and know a little about fixing things. Start by doing yard clean ups, raking leaves, trimming trees, painting, other small repairs, - anything they think they want you to do. Pick your location well - though, where you start your business, make sure the rents are low, and there is enough population to keep you busy. If you have a special skill, if you can turn that into a business, try that as well. Start with a vehicle, some tools, an advertising budget, and in six months, the work should start to overwhelm you and you will have to hire someone. The biggest mistake you will make is not charging enough - remember you will probably not be working on rainy days, and travel time cuts into the number of hours you can work.
