Why do companies ask for resumes and filled out work experience forms?
OQ: Why do some employers require you to provide a resume and fill out a job application?Currently, the resume is the one and only way for companies hiring staff to evaluate your experience doing the work that would be required of you at the job you’re applying for. You’re asking because you have no experience, aren’t you? Or you have a big ol’ gap where you were doing something else that you want to get away from? I know, I know…there should be a way for us to get a good job, too, but currently, there isn’t.The job application is for legal reasons, mainly to do a background check on applicants to make sure they aren’t wanted by the police or something. And to confirm in the office that they can read and write.

I'm depressed and have no energy to do all the mindless form-filling, editing and emailing necessary to apply for jobs in today's world. Is there a service I can use to have someone do this for me so I can get a large number of resumes out per day?
Even if you find someone or a program to fill out your applications (programs exist to do this), if you are depressed, you will not do well if this approach gets you an interview.Get help for your depression, start networking, and spend your energy in getting to know people. Getting a large number of resumes out per day for an unfocused search does not really work. People hire in the end, people they know. You need a good resume to pass the Applicant Tracking System (ATS), but you also need to be applying for jobs you fit.

What is something that should be taught in high school, but isn’t?
A2AI will answer this from an Indian high school point of view. There are a lot of things that need to be taught but aren't and especially in India - diversity is “discouraged”.Teachers would “scare” children off saying that marks are important and how everyone needs to get A grade. Its stupid! Marks are stupid. I scored 94% in 10th (when there were percentage system in CBSE), and nobody asks me my marks now.Clearing entrance exams like its the last thing on earth! I'm not saying entrance exams aren't important but they aren't life. They're a part of life and when everyday I hear news about children committing suicide in Koṭa because they couldn't handle the pressure I feel like killing those murderer teachers who pressure the students to study for like 20 hrs a day! Its ridiculous.Engineering and medical are the only two professions - Honestly saying - ART is so undervalued in India that if some student has taken arts or humanities he is assumed to be “dull” or “nalayak”. I don't know why!Focusing too much on English as a language and totally ignoring other languages. Punjabi has become optional in Punjab! What else can be sadder than that? Kids choose Hindi over Punjabi as you've to choose only one language and parents encourage the children to either speak in Hindi or English as if speaking Punjabi is a crime or something! If you talk in your mother tongue, you're considered an uneducated fellow - and its more prevalent in North India than south. Here in South I see people taking pride in talking in Malayalam or Tamil, and I feel happy that they're preserving their culture while Punjabi on the other hand has diminished completely…High schools should teach how to file taxes and make audits and all the information which is “actually” going to be important for you! There should be some mandatory “law” subjects to learn about the laws of your country properly, and to know how and when you can use what. Like today many men are being trapped in false cases of rape, dowry etc. and some of them don't know what to do, and hire lawyers who take full advantage of such cases!Schools should also focus on “diverse thinking”, not everyone will think the same. They should encourage kids who come up with bizarre, random, and absolutely out of the box thoughts and rather help such kids to improve their thinking and utilise their diversity to come up with better ideas and products!Schools should teach “sex education”. In India there are still many schools which have no classes on sex-ed. My school had a lot of sex-ed sessions but still its the need of the hour that India control its population now! We’re becoming a burden on limited natural resources and we will soon have a civil war if things aren't set straight.Schools should encourage children to spend some quality time with their friends rather than becoming Bajrang-dal and asking girls and guys to sit separately! That's ridiculous knowing that tomorrow we are going to force the same children to have sex and have babies! (Welcome to arranged marriage!)Schools should also encourage kids to plan their own exams and tests! That's important I feel because not every child can prepare 10 subjects in one week. Some need more time and some less. Its all a child’s personal capability and instead of forcing and burdening him, we should encourage him with flexible test dates to come prepared and be confident in whenever he wants to give a test!Lastly - I feel schools “must” have a locker system just like in west so that kids don't have to Carry same books everyday to school. I feel its pointless and stupid. Locker system should've been the mandatory thing in Indian schools where anyways the mental burden on a kid is too much…

What’s the worst fight you had to break up as a teacher?
There had been a shooting in the small town over the weekend. A man stopped for gas, calmly shot his mother as she sat in the passenger's seat of the vehicle, then asked the gas station attendant to call the police. Many of my students knew this man and his mother, and the tragedy shook the town. Easter was coming, and the shooting drew a pall over what would otherwise have been a joyous week of hectic planning for the oncoming celebration. In my sixth grade class that day, two young men, best friends, suddenly flew at one another, knocking over chairs and sending their fellow students scattering. Quickly, other young men separated the two, dragging them to opposite corners of the room.I had no call button in my room, which was in an out building separated from the main building by a long, covered walkway. The principal had recently instituted a policy requiring that teachers fill out the referral paperwork before sending anyone to the office, no exceptions. The smaller of the two kept trying to break free and lunge at the other, now restrained by friends near the windows. Struggling to finish the blasted paperwork, I wound up having to literally sit on the student to keep him from attacking again. As I sat on a student, blood staining my new Easter blouse, filling out forms in triplicate, I thought how pointless and absurd this all was, and I vowed to start sending out resumes immediately. To our shock, in walked the principal. She was apparently traveling room to room to deliver some message so important that I cannot even remember what it was now. And her first observation?“Oh, Mrs. (surname), there are so many staples on your carpet!”That's it. No mention of the fact there had obviously been a fight just minutes before. Hell, I had sixth graders on my carpet, too, and they are much larger than staples.I found out that the bigger of the two had made an insensitive comment about the shooting to his friend (who was kin to both the shooter and the victim), and his friend just snapped. The two immediately reconciled and remained best friends.I quickly found another job in a neighboring town, starting immediately after summer break began. The principal, resentful that I was leaving, had tried nibbling me to death with a series of petty reprimands over nothing, but in the end, I was able to escape relatively unscathed. I can't say the same for the kids, as her mismanagement led the state to take over the school the following year.

Why do we learn things in school we don't need to know in real life?
From a teacher’s perspective, the state generally sets the curriculum frameworks, which are standards that a teacher must get their students to achieve those established standards. However, there are also additional national standards that are set by various entities. For example, national music standards are set by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is an additional set of standards that came from an act at the state level even though there was some federal influence (Source: http://www.breitbart.com/big-gov...). Common Core has not worked in my classroom based on my data.Knowing this information, the various levels establish the standards of what is to be taught in public schools. So, we are taught useless things in public schools because of the control that the state, national, and the federal level has on our public education system. In this top-down approach, the higher levels set the standards, teachers teach the standards to our students, and students try to achieve those standards. If the state and higher levels were to recommend standards that would be of greater importance (e.g., real life skills, etc.), then we would see that coming from the top for teachers to teach to our students. For those dissenters, real life skills are those skills that are not currently taught in schools but are essential to survive in our society. I would suggest these skills to be taught at the high school level, which this is just a sample list:1. How to buy a car 2. How to buy a house 3. How to balance a checkbook 4. How to fill out and pay your taxes (both EZ and long form)5. How to sign your name in cursive for signatures (schools used to teach this en masse, but has diminished over the years)6. How to properly take care of yourself7. How to succeed in job interviews (colleges provide this service, but does not teach it in classrooms—my college did not teach it) 8. How to write a successful resume and cover letter (colleges also provide this service, but does not teach it in classrooms)9. How to be able to search for careers if one does not work, and to receive the proper training to succeed10. How to budget money and plan accordingly (the military taught me this skill)11. How to cook (Home Economics used to be a norm in schools)12. How to be able to detect fraud, waste, and abuse13. How to detect scams, spoof e-mail, and how to report it14. How to have proper character and professionalism through character training (this would need to be taught throughout the school years)15. How to have proper ethical character and integrity16. How to fix and troubleshoot things
