You tell yourself you have to do this. “I know it isn’t the right thing to do, but I have to do this.” You give yourself no option. You cut off all contact. You keep your mind busy all day and all night. There is no shortcut. If you want out, pack up and leave. You have to go against your most basic instinct and nature. There is no midway. You cannot be friends. Burn the bridges in such a way that there is no going back. Wait for the pain in your heart to become a dull aching thud, and maybe one day stop bothering you altogether. Focus on anything and anyone, but him. Make some empty space. Get comfortable with it. See if someone else takes it. If not, thank God for the amazing connection you had, and the forever you found in the limited time you had together.

My therapist shared early on I would have seen and felt it earlier if he would have been home more. I was busy and overwhelmed raising 2 little ones and running the home.When he got a job that kept him around, the mask fell off and I encountered a cruel, cold and calculating stranger with a hollow soul. It was astounding and surreal.Looking back the subtle signs were there but not enough time to create the visible patterns that would have pointed ut out much earlier.My brother learned from my Dad and is a raging covert that has and always will project his hatred and fury towards me. I have been NC mode with him for 15 years.My ex's Dad is also NPD. A retired priest, he is a covert-overt mix. He is grumpy, extremely cheap and always dominates all conversations -steering it to all about him. Kids are a nuisance and he avoids them. Few friends-he is difficult to toleraSo, I have 4. The oldest is well aware of NPD…In my experience and research, we have to teach our kids how to treat others AND expectations of how others should treat them. Especially daughters…Those teachings can brwak the cycles.
