So I just watched the new Cap’n Marbles movie (starring Scott Pilgrim’s ex-girlfriend) and it was just… Fine.✅✅Watch OR Download ((FULL HD)) Movie Online ✅✅Before I start talking about the film itself, I want to talk about the controversy revolving this movie, namely my belief that it’s completely stupid because Captain Marvel is just a normal fucking Marvel movie.It has the same unspecial filmmaking.It has the same obnoxious hit-or-miss sense of humor.It has the same Stan Lee cameo (God rest him and Steve Ditko).It has the same obnoxious worldbuilding.Yet there are fucking idiots on the internet who fight a stupid pointless war about it, one side proclaiming that this movie is going to cancel white men or that white men shouldn’t have an opinion on the movie while the other side claims that the movie is anti-men and they want to see it fail because of Brie Larson’s agenda or some shit like that (even though no one else cares that the other MCU actors share her political beliefs as well).To both of you, I want to say: grow up.Now let’s talk about what actually matters here: the art of film and storytelling.Like I said before (as well as last night), Captain Marvel is just a normal Marvel movie, no different than Ant-Man, Age of Ultron, and Black Panther.If we’re talking about the filmmaking, it’s the same thing that we’ve seen before.The cinematography is just the typical “shot-reverse-shot” where characters engage in a conversation while the camera cuts to whichever person is speaking from the same exact angle. Whenever it doesn’t do that it does other things that are similarly bland and style-less. Really the only thing in this regard that’s remotely memorable is this cringy sequence of shots at the climax of the movie that show Carol, throughout all her stages in life, getting up and looking at the camera like she’s in a Nerf Rebelle commercial.The musical score is also just bland and forgettable, even by MCU standards. Hell, even Michael Giacchino’s Homecoming score (which was terribly bland by Spider-Man standards) was more memorable than this movie. Like the cinematography, the only time where Captain Marvel’s music is “memorable” is when it’s being flat-out bad, like the fight scene at the end where it was just a shameless rip-off of what Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok did.Really, if you’ve seen any one of the MCU movies, you’ve seen them all. There’s not much to talk about Captain Marvel when it comes to the filmmaking because it’s exactly like films such as Ant-Man and Black Panther. That’s why films like Thor: Ragnarok and the Guardians movies are considered among the best in the MCU; despite Waititi and Gunn still under the thumb of the mouse, the studio, and Kevin Feige when they worked on those films, they made art that had their signature filmmaking and style.What about this shot screams “A creative mind or team infused their heart and soul into this movie”?When it came to the more “surface-level” filmmaking like the performances, the writing, and the story, it was just a tad bit more bearable.When it came to the performances, there were only three people who saved this movie from being flat-out bad: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ben Mendelsohn. Brie Larson (who I predicted was going to be decent because of her performance in films like Scott Pilgrim and 21 Jump Street) and Samuel L. Jackson had a genuine chemistry that made this movie way more entertaining than it had any right to be while Mendelsohn’s performance was enjoyable to watch. Not to mention, I kind of liked the spunk and attitude that Larson gave to Carol; I was actually expecting to hate the MCU’s take on her but then Larson proved me wrong. Everyone else was either ok (e.g., Clark Gregg, Gemma Chan, Jude Law), underused (e.g., Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace), or meh (e.g., Lashana Lynch, the child actors who played Monica Rambeau).The writing was… Typical Marvel writing. I can’t say a lot because that would spoil certain twists and turns (one of which, I’m going to talk about a lot). However, it was just typical Marvel humor where there are immersion-breaking childish jokes placed in because of Marvel Studios being incapable of doing comedy the way Sam Raimi or Edgar Wright do it.Aside from the humor, the writing was just bland. I mean, I appreciate that they didn’t copy the whole “Carol is just Hal Jordan with boobs” origin story but at the same time, it felt extremely hokey and somewhat phony in terms of portraying its… What’s the word I’m looking for?Yes, Norman: progressive ideals.While I’ve grown out of resenting movies for their political alignment (sorry, The Last Jedi), I only accept movies with politics I don’t agree with when 1.) they’re still part of a movie that’s good or great and 2.) genuinely believe in what they’re psignNowing and aren’t just pandering to a crowd of people because it’s not made by a bunch of studio-driven hacks.Movies like Captain Marvel and Black Panther are just normal Marvel movies written by a shit ton of writers whose job it is to make inoffensive stories that sell tickets to audiences with untapped financial potential. That’s what separates these cookie cutter movies from actual ground-breaking cinema like Into the Spider-Verse; even though that movie is progressive as well, it actually means something in terms of the grander story and its message is genuinely heartfelt.Case in point and SPOILERS BY THE WAY:...Compare and contrast Dr. Wendy Lawson and Dr. Olivia Octavius.(have to use a pic of the Supreme Intelligence because there are currently no pictures of Annette Benning as Lawson)Even though both are gender-bent versions of traditionally male characters (Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell and Otto Octavius, respectively), one only exists just to amp up the “girl power” message of its movie while the other was simply a refreshing take on a character everyone’s seen before.While I was never a big fan of the male Captain Marvel (I actually liked Carol more because, not only was she hot during her Ms. Marvel days, she had much more exposure in media that I saw since I never read the comics), it’s kind of scummy that they even did this. It’s so disrespectful not just to the character (as he isn’t known to the general public as Carol is) but also to the very reason why Carol is even Captain Marvel in the first place. She was pretty much Walter’s distaff counterpart that got so popular, she surpassed him in almost every single way despite having the name Ms.Marvel. By turning Walter into some old lady, it defeats Carol’s original purpose. All of this, just for some phony political agenda.Contrast that with Olivia, who was made as a way to portray Doctor Octopus in the most non-traditional way possible as to surprise fans. Everyone knows who Otto Octavius is: a short, stocky smart guy armed with four metal appendages and a cruel sense of humor who might as well be called Science Squid or Doctor Stra—-To completely subvert the typical Doctor Octopus, the crew created Olivia: a tall, slim hippie woman armed with four plastic appendages, a hairdo that actually resembles an octopus, and a friendly sense of humor despite having the ambitions of a multiverse-conquering sociopath. Not to mention, having Olivia juxtaposed with characters like Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales helps support the theme that anyone has the ability to be anything, be it Spider-Man or Doctor Octopus. Because of that, Olivia has proven herself to be Otto’s equal in every single way.Long story short: Wendy only exists for some lame feminist message meanwhile Olivia exists because the filmmakers wanted to create a different yet respectful rendition of Doc Ock....Ok, SPOILERS OVER.Other comments:The 90’s pandering was cringy and stupid. This is the thing that upsets me the most about this movie. Right as I decided that “This movie isn’t that bad so far,” Carol fell into a Blockbuster store and I died on the inside. I kid you not, there’s a commercial where right after Carol falls into the Blockbuster, she encounters Kris Jenner, who wants to put her in a movie.I hate what they did with the Skrulls. Since I’ve already finished my spoiler section, I can’t say anything really about the Skrulls other than that they re-wrote their “point” so that the situation that they’re in resembles modern-day politics. Let’s just say that we’re not going to see Norman Osborn shoot Queen Veranke in the head any time soon…I hate some of the explanations of certain things since Captain Marvel is a prequel. Again, since it’s not in the spoiler section, I can’t say much. Let’s just say… I hate how the MCU treats Janet van Dyne (otherwise known as the woman who named the Avengers in the comics as well as in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes).Captain Marvel’s helmet looked stupid in the comics and it looks stupid here. The sight of this tough-as-nails woman with this shitty attempt to recreate the Roman mohawk and the high-pitched voice of Brie Larson is really really goofy. I understand that Carol’s Ms. Marvel outfit(s) is considered perverted and “sexist” by our modern standards but couldn’t they at least keep the domino mask? At least that looks better than… Whatever this is.Like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Black Panther before it, Captain Marvel is just a normal inoffensive Marvel movie made with the same bland style of humor, same bland cinematography and editing, and the same cookie cutter way of filmmaking.Even though there’s some stupid shit in it, I don’t regret watching this movie; there was some good in it that kept it from being too boring, not to mention it’s useless doing the “speak with your wallet” strategy if Disney and Marvel are going to get a shit ton of money from mainstream audiences anyway.I’m just angry that cookie cutter movies like these exist and gain momentum from mainstream audiences, especially when an awesome groundbreaking piece of cinema that’s comparable to Spider-Man 2 and The Dark Knight just got released a few months ago.Here’s a film that actually cares about the craft of film and genuinely believes in its ideals.
