How does Phillips Exeter Academy compare to Phillips Andover Academy?
Both are brilliant schools. The campus, infrastructure, reputation…everything stands first for both. If one had to pick one or compare, you would have to go visit it personally. The basic difference that I have observed is the dress code and teaching techniques maybe. I’d recommend one to visit it personally. However, I’m listing few facts and my thoughts on the Phillips Exeter Academy. It’s not just a streak of genius that’s common between these three successful figures. What really binds them together is that they are all alumni of one School – Phillips Exeter Academy. It is this academy that nurtured their innovativeness with a remarkable approach to learning.Phillips Exeter Academy regularly appears in Business Insider’s list of top schools in America, and their list of noteworthy alumni does not stop here. John Irving (Novelist and Screenwriter) and Tom Steyer (Billionaire Hedge fund manager) are some of the other highly successful ‘Exonians’.With a tried and tested formula in hand, an Ivy-league dominated management board and alumni network, this school has a legacy to aspire for. It is also a member of the G20 schools group. It is one of the most sought after boarding schools of the country. Moreover, it is extremely selective in nature about the students they take in. Only the most talented candidates make up the 19% of yearly applications that finally make it to the school to become Exonians.A large number of the students who step out of Phillips Exeter Academy are welcomed by some of the most prestigious institutions for their higher education, as indicated by the academy’s College Matriculation figures for Classes 2015 to 2017. Based on the strong foundation created during their years at Phillips Exeter Academy, students are better acquainted with their interests and are well-equipped in choosing the right institutions to build their future.Students who have been able to nurture their creativity, talent and potential at Phillips Exeter Academy have gone on to pave their way to a successful future. They have also contributed towards making a difference in the lives of others too.The school has produced over a dozen US senators and even an American president. And others are contributing in different ways too. For instance, Rohan Pavuluri graduated from the academy and later went on to joinHarvard. He eventually spearheaded Upsolve with the objective of supporting Americans with low-income and mitigating financial distress. Dr. Matthew Carty, an alumnus, contributed his innovative skills to the field of amputation. He offered a different recovery process for individuals who undergo lower limb injuries. What makes Phillips Exeter Academy different?Phillips Exeter Academy’s approach to learning is nothing short of revolutionary. It allows young minds to grow into remarkable thinkers. Setting it apart is its unique ethos of Harkness, a student-centred learning technique. This practice consists of 12 students and one teacher sitting around an oval table and exploring a subject through discussions. Thus, what lies behind the school’s distinguished alumni figures is not the legacyof Phillips Exeter Academy. Instead, it’s the school’s drive to innovate and excel. Their objective is to make students understand topics from different perspectives and learn with the future in mind. This helps them churn out makers and builders, who are outcomes of this sustainable learning approach. What are the features of Harkness? What’s remarkable about the Harkness method is that there’s nothing complicated or gimmicky about it. Here are some of its simple features that come together to foster the most ideal way of learning:Discussion: The Harkness method replaces lectures with discussions. And thus, the argument ‘one size of teaching does not fit all’ finds an effective solution at Phillips Exeter Academy.Collaborative Learning: The oval table has been the world-accepted design for collaborative spaces. And as students take charge of the discussion, a sense of equality permeates through the room. Every idea is shared and listened to without bias.Limited Numbers: The academy caps the number of students in a classroom to just 12 students. Thus, every student gets a chance to speak and be exposed to different points of view.Student-centric: The teacher’s role is to facilitate a platform for discussion, while students pull out insights on their own.Through the Harkness way of learning, students subconsciously develop essential values in them. They gain the courage to speak up, the compassion to listen, and the empathy to understand. Students intrinsically develop these qualities, as it’s the norm at every sitting to let each and every student speak. The greatest indicators of a school’s success are not just exam-topping marks or awards. A school’s name is truly upheld when students go out into the world and pioneer in their respective fields. And this is exactly what makes Phillips Exeter Academy one of the very best!Hope this was helpful. Please feel free to drop your suggestions in the comments below. Thanks & All the best!

What are my chances of being accepted to Phillips Exeter Academy?
Before I answer, let me just say this: whether or not you are accepted to Exeter is WAY MORE than just a simple referendum on or judgment of you. A vast universe of parameters comes into play. Odds are low. Because lots of people apply. And most of those people are smart, and driven, and accomplished. But a lot of those people only apply because it's Exeter. When I attended, I knew plenty of kids who, when asked why they were at Exeter, could only reply, "It's Exeter," like how when you asked why they wanted to go to Harvard, could only reply, "It's Harvard." As in, doesn't EVERYbody want to go to Exeter? Or Harvard? Not everybody wants to go to boarding school. Or college. Of the people who do, to a man and woman they would each be better off not necessarily at Exeter or Harvard but at an institution which best meets their needs. Someplace they feel comfortable. Someplace that works for them and for which they're willing to work. One school simply cannot compile the best minds in every conceivable field. And no one school is guaranteed to open doors and secure employment.People who don't know any better might salivate at an Exeter or a Harvard on a resume, but do you really want to work with/for people who don't know any better? As far as college acceptance goes ... also a mixed bag. I went to Exeter and had a 1570 SATs (impressive in 1998) but I was rejected from nearly every college I applied to - both because I had a flat-B average putting me right in the middle of my class, which when combined with my scores made me seem lazy, and also because I was whiny emo prick at the time. Point being, those grades and scores would have greatly enhanced my chances of getting into schools if I'd stayed at public school in southern California -but because I was at Exeter, excellence wasn't anything special.I hope that answers your question and perhaps others.

How many students apply to Phillips Exeter Academy each year?
If you’re a student, you should possibly be able to answer this question. If you’re a prospective parent, ideally, you would be able to guide your student to answer this question.Nevertheless, just do a quick gauge by looking for individual class numbers. I don’t have the latest numbers handy, but the school has approximately 1100 students and if you divide that up by 4 (9th through 12th), you should get roughly 275 students per class. The latest estimates of the admissions rate is around 16%. If you divide the number of students by .16, you’ll arrive at the number:1718 (approximately).Since there are actually students who say “no” after receiving word from the elite boarding school, you can possibly even estimate a little higher.Hope that helps (not only with the number, but also in how to figure out math problems like this ;)

How much did Phillips Exeter Academy contribute to Adam D'Angelo's success as a CEO and entrepreneur?
Academy admits top students, top student ( Adam D'Angelo ) gets admitted. Adam meets other top students, among which he sees Mark Elliot Zuckerberg. “Hmm, I kinda like this dude”, Adam thinks. They meet, they talk, they chat, they both love to code; they both love to learn. They create Synapse.Synapse is some lovely piece of crap, “we should show people this shit”, Zuck says, D'Angelo answers with the affirmative. Microsoft blown to pieces, they send their pawn pieces to see what sorcery these two Exeter bishops have conjured … they offer a mil. grand. Zuck and D'Angelo be kinda crazy not take the tip. THEY DIDN'T.…………… Exeter en route Harvard ……………..Zuck drops outta Harvard to run Facebook, Adam becomes CTO. Adam meets lots of great people, he learn a lot too, from Sean Parker, Peter Thiel, Bill Windows/Gates …Adam Mafias away from Facebook to spend a bit on startups drenching in the valley. He and his friends come up with this Idea when they be asked too much stupid questions like “I have a 300 IQ, what should I do for a living”, Adam would reply, “ Visit a Psychology major who minors in Job consultancy”.Quora gets big, many stupid questions, many great questions too, phew !!!.……….Exeter attracts the right people, that's how Zuck and Adam met. That's your answer.

How does Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology compare to Phillips Exeter Academy?
In interest of full disclosure, I am a student at TJHSST. However, I have also considered applying for Phillips Exeter. Here are my thoughts:First of all, Phillips Exeter is a private school. Unless you were to live very close, boarding school would be your only option.Since Phillips Exeter is a private school, you would also have to consider the fairly high cost of tuition and room and board, etc. However, you shouldn't let this be a huge factor in making a decision because they offer lots of scholarships. The benefit of going to a private school is mainly the small class sizes, in my opinion. However, TJHSST is one of the top public high schools in the country, located in one of the most competitive counties in the country. It offers lots of opportunities for students.Lastly, and most importantly, is that TJ is more specialized in STEM. This is what helped me make my decision. I'm very interested in technology, and TJ provides the opportunities to build on those interested.I think that in the end, it depends on the type of learning experience you would prefer. Both schools have very bright students and lots of learning opportunities. If you like a small class size and the boarding school experience, Phillips Exeter is the way to go. However, if you want a STEM focused high school that still has a very competent fine arts program, TJ would be the best choice.
