hi my name is Kaylee swetland and I run the veterans transitional housing program here at volunteers America Northern California Northern Nevada my program is called GPD which means Grant and per diem our veterans come from all walks of life all backgrounds nationalities ethnicities they come because they're looking for permanent housing they need a space to be able to lay their head and to have safety and not have to worry about where their next meal is going to come from and transitional housing is so unique in that it is able to really support somebody with those basic needs and create that Foundation of Safety and Security so that they can work on the things that are most important gaining employment maybe gaining access to benefits that they're owed because they had some traumatic things happen to them in the military that they're not being reimbursed for with a team of case managers we have a housing specialist and an employment and benefit specialist we're able to bring them in
