To detect and deter waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct in DOJ programs and personnel and to promote economy and efficiency in those programs. I work at the OIG because what we do is important. It’s just so interesting. We do very, very high profile investigations and reviews of Department activities. We reviewed ATF’s operation fast and furious; BOP’s monitoring of contract prisons; the Justice Department’s handling of known or suspected terrorists in the Witness Security Protection Program; BOP’s untimely release of inmates; the Department’s use and support of surveillance drones; the work we did helped restore justice to wrongfully convicted defendants; theft of heroin and obstruction of justice that was perpetrated by an FBI agent; aging inmates in the Federal Bureau of Prisons; the impact of restrictive housing on inmates with mental illness; I worked on an investigation of a former FBI supervisor who ultimately was indicted and plead guilty to 12 counts of perjury and
