[Music] back in the 1980s a program called project people physical education Opportunity Program for exceptional learners started at a few schools in this region over the next two decades more and more general education students wanted to be involved in the program and this program name didn't truly reflect what it was a partnership so as a region it was proposed to create a program to highlight all students coming up with partners PE but the real challenge was getting districts to make it a class on their campus so in 2004 a coach at McKinney High School Julie Overton and myself started the first partners PE program in McKinney ISD partners PE is a physical education program specifically designed for students with special needs who are also paired up with general education students our general education students are here to serve and to guide the students with special needs through any part of the curriculum through physical activity through health through fitness I don't set my stand
