Welcome to the AMBOSS tutorial  on administering vaccines! In this video, we’ll be using the  standard vaccination technique,   which is intramuscular injection  into the deltoid muscle. This technique is used when injecting  almost all vaccines from childhood onward. We’ll be referring to the recommendations of  the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You’ll need the following:  disinfectant, disposable gloves,   sharps container, cotton swabs, vaccine,  bandages, and possibly a syringe and needle. Choose a needle length and gauge depending on the  patient’s age and the thickness of adipose tissue. Needle lengths range from 16  mm, or ⅝”, to 38 mm, or 1.5”. Lastly, make sure to use a 22- to 25-gauge needle. The first step of administration is to rule out  any absolute contraindications to vaccination. A moderate or severe acute illness, such as an  infection with fever above 38.5 C or 101.3° F,   is an absolute contraindication to vaccination;
