How easy is it for Indian citizens to get a Schengen visa?
It is very easy to get a Schengen Visa from India, if you have all documentation in place. My family and I had applied for a Short Stay Tourist Schengen Visa via Switzerland and received it within 3 days of submission in March 2017 in Mumbai. I was travelling to France, Switzerland and UK with my wife and in-laws (All of us are Indian citizens living in India). My wife and I have travelled abroad several times however this was the first foreign trip for my in-laws. My father in-law and I also had sufficient funds (above Rs. 2 lakhs) maintained regularly in our 6 month bank account statements and sufficient income (above Rs. 5 lakhs per annum). The application procedure via VFS (Switzerland Visa Information - New Delhi (North and East India) - Home Page) is very straightforward. If you have any queries, you can call their helpline or mail them. I found them very cooperative and prompt at replying queries. Here is my experience so that others too can obtain their Visa easily.Create an account on Swiss Visa. You can fill multiple application forms for different people using the same account. I created an account and filled out the forms for all 4 of us.The application form is quite short. The Visa Authorities merely wish to confirm if you are a genuine applicant who will not stay back in Europe illegally. It is highly advisable to have a confirmed accommodation booking under your own name, along with the return travel tickets. After filling the forms, you have make the payment of Rs. 5850 per application and take an appointment. We picked the earliest possible appointment, which was on the next day. Print all the necessary forms including your Application Form, Application Checklist, Appointment Letter, Receipt, Passport Xerox, Travel Tickets, Hotel Reservations, Income Tax Returns, Bank Account Statements, Marriage Certificate (in case your spouse’s name is not mentioned in your passport), Travel Insurance, Cover Letter (explaining why are you applying for Visa) and anything else pertaining to your trip. It is better to give them extra information rather than have your application rejected over lack of sufficient information.signNow the Visa Application Centre before time. They have a token system and there is a certain waiting time there. We took nearly 3 hours to complete the entire process as our token number was being skipped due to some computer fault. As we were travelling together in a group, all our documents were bunched together for submission. The biometric data will be taken and you will be asked to leave immediately after all this.We received a mail and SMS after 2 days that our processed application was dispatched from Delhi. We picked up a sealed package with our name from the Application Centre on Day 3. When we opened the package, we had obtained the Visa on our Passports.Overall, it was a pretty simple procedure and it is easy to complete it by yourself with some guidance from the VFS Helplines. If you have all travel documents and finances in place, then you can confidently apply for the Visa without worry of rejection.FYI - Embassy norms dictate that one must obtain UK Visa prior to Schengen Visa irrespective of which country you enter first, if UK happens to be on your travel itinerary.

How do I apply for a Schengen visa from India, and what are the financial requirements? I would like to know how much funds I need to show on my bank account for a 14-day trip to Europe.
First thing first “Finalizing the Visa Consulate”:If you are planning to tour more than two countries in the Schengen area then apply for visa to the embassy/consulate of the country you will be residing in for most of the travelling days, often referred as the main destination. If two countries have the same number of days then choose the one where you are planning to land or exit.In case you do not have a fixed itinerary (not recommended, though), and you plan to visit several countries in the Schengen area randomly, then apply to the embassy/consulate of the country which you are entering first.Since now you know which embassy you need to apply, next is how to apply and what are the documents required.Long trail of documentation:The most painful part is this, where you need to prepare the documentation. I will keep the checklist simple and provide rationale on why they ask for the particular document which will help you understand the significance of it and you can produce a substitute, if possible and required1) Valid passport (issued within the last 10 years and with at least 3 months validity after the scheduled return; passports with observations regarding the front data page are no accepted) with at least two empty pages Nothing much to say, of course you need a valid passport. Since the maximum stay with a Schengen visa can be of 90 days, so 3 months validity is required on the passport. Two blank pages, because one will have Visa sticker and the other page will have Indian immigration stamps and the stamps from the Schengen country where you are landing and exiting.2) 2 passport pictures according to biometric specifications, not older than 6 months Go to the studio and get a photo of the dimension 35 mm in length and 45 mm in height. Your face (the start of the hairline in the forehead till end of your chin) should be between 32 mm to 36 mm. Get the photo in a light background, white is preferred. Detailed information can be obtained here Cheap Tip: Do not go to any fancy studio and spend a bomb on just the photo. The consulate needs a clean and clear photo with the above mentioned specifications (which are very general) and not for featuring you as a playboy model, so save the buck.3) Leave letter of your company (if employed)This letter serves as a proof of return to your own country, so make sure the letter clearly states your designation, since when you are working with the company, leave dates (mandatorily covering your entire stay), date on which you will resume your duties.No-objection certificate of school or university (if student) This is pretty much same as the above.4) Proof of financial status If employed:Payslips of the past three months / employment contract Provide either of them, not both. Provide three latest Payslips, as it clearly states how much you are earning and if you are capable of surviving a European trip. This document helps the Visa officer gauge your financial status and also validates that the money earned is legal. If self-employed:Certificate of Proprietorship or other proof of ownership (proof of land title, proof of income from agriculture (sales form) etc.) 5) Income Tax Return (ITR) form or Form 16(Certificate of Income Tax deducted at the source of salary)It ensures that all the fund in your bank account is earned legally. Though my experience is that, they hardly care how you have earned the money. If they see there is enough fund available in your account then they are fine.6) Personal bank statement of the past three months with sufficient fundsHere they look into couple of things; first, money in your account is sufficient to cover your entire stay in Schengen area during your travel period. Second, the fund has not been deposited all of a sudden to inflate the available balance. I have written below in detail on how much you should show in your bank account, so keep reading. The bank account statement can be online, but make sure it is a bank statement with details of transaction and not just an account summary. You can show travelers cards (with statement stating available balance), credit card statement, and fixed deposits in your name or joint accounts. If anyone is sponsoring you (like your father or mother), a sponsoring letter addressed to the consulate from him/her and his/her bank statement for last 3 months.7) Proof of accommodation for your entire stay in the Schengen area. This is vital, I have read and heard personal experiences where the Visa has been cancelled due to discrepancy in accommodation arrangements. Make sure you have confirmed hotel bookings with details of the property owner/manager and property details (address). If you are staying at friends/relatives place then copy of their passport (with valid residence permit, in case of non-EU citizen) and an invitation mail will be sufficient as long as you are sponsoring your own stay.8) Flight and transport reservation Again, very vital. Many applications got rejected because of fake bookings. DO NOT make a fake reservation. Search for flights which has minimal cancellation charges and book your flights well ahead of travel date (45-60 days prior) to get a good deal. If you are travelling within Schengen countries then it is advised to show them train/bus bookings for inter-nation travel. One need not show travel details within the country, say if you are travelling within Italy (Rome to Florence) then need not show prior bookings. But if you are travelling from Italy to Switzerland then it is advised to show a confirmed booking.9) Travel Insurance Vital to get visa and also for your own sake. If something unwanted happens and you need to avail medical services then you will be ripped off everything as healthcare is expensive in whole of Europe. The travel insurance must cover Euro 30, 000.00 in case of hospitalization and must cover emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains. The list of approved travel insurance companies can be fetched here.10) Proof of civil status Marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, ration card if applicable or Aadhaar Card.11) 1 copy of your passport’s data page Print the first two pages and last two pages of your passport in an A4 size paper.12) Residency proof, if address in the passport falls outside the jurisdiction region of the consulate: Which consulate or which region you can apply? You can apply at the region (North, South, East or West) where you are residing for last 6 months. This is something none of the blogs available in the internet have mentioned clearly. In case you are a domicile of different region and applying at a different region (domicile of Uttar Pradesh, North and working in Bangalore, South for last 3 years), or simply if the address mentioned in your passport does not fall under the jurisdiction region of then consulate then you need to provide either a copy of your rent agreement, or a letter from your company HR clearly mentioning your address or some utility bill (electricity, water or telephone bill).13) Duly filled application form Kept at last, because it is important. You can either fill an online application (recommended) or also can fill an offline application. German consulate online application can be filled here , similarly other Countries’ application form can be found in the respective VFS website. Self-Declaration Form can be found here, required only for German consulate. It is recommended to fill the online application form, it not only saves time at the application center but also legibility is better than the handwritten one.14) Cover Letter A letter addressed to the consulate you are applying. It must contain the followingPurpose of visit (tourism, visiting friends or family)Detailed itinerary If you have a sponsorExplain your personal relationship with your sponsor and the reason why they will be sponsoring your tripIf you cannot submit any of the required documents, write about the reasons why you cannot submit and explain alternative documents that you may have submittedYou can also mention the reasons why you will not overstay the visa period (employment, personal assets, etc.), explain your rootedness to the countryCool Tip: You can attach the itinerary separately which will enhance the readability of your letter.Write to me at universallocalite@gmail.com if you require a specimen cover letter or template of itinerary, I will be more than happy to help you with one.Visit my blog-How to obtain a Schengen Visa-Rules and tips

When did you have the most difficult time staying professional?
For obvious confidentiality reasons I am withholding some details from this story, but the story is worth the risk of telling because it is one of the most difficult aspects of any professional practice, where an intense professional relationship crosses the line that should never be crossed, into an intense personal relationship. This might be a cautionary tale for any young professional in such a situation. So before the time in this tale, I knew this woman very, very well from a compelling and lengthy hospital experience with her father, who died from a long, hopeless cardiac illness; he never made it out of the hospital after four months there.I should have known better, but the appointment that was made for her in my office, that really began this event and this story, was clearly made for discussing something other than medical issues. As it happened my prolonged hospital experience with her due to her father’s illness had lead to a deepening familiarity, already involving more personal feelings and involvement than retrospectively appropriate. I guess you could say she had “fallen in love” with me and I knew that already.I knew this appointment meant something else because there had been a prior momentary physical contact, a deep kiss and embrace, a few weeks or month or two before, outside of the hospital. I had met her across the street for lunch and later walking together with her in a park I had engaged in that momentary physical contact but then turned, and recognizing its real danger then, I indicated that starting a relationship, which she very clearly desired, was not possible. But I had already crossed that invisible line. Kissing this woman, the way I did, is not a medically motivated event. So when I heard from my secretary that she had called for an office appointment, I knew why she was coming to my office, I really knew. But I very much wanted to see her again, as much as she wanted to see me. I gave the consent to my secretary to make that appointment already thinking that I was about to take a plunge into forbidden territory; I made the decision to initiate the event. She was not my patient; she had never been, but she was the daughter of a patient who died in my care over several months. The context of that relationship had begun in professional circumstances, and then should have stayed, must stay, in professional circumstances. So on this one occasion, I was guilty of bsignNowing my professional ethic to never become personally involved with an individual entering my office with an appointment, which should have been for a professional discussion. However, this woman had really scheduled the appointment not for a professional consultation, but for the direct purpose of deepening a nascent personal relationship with me and I with her.Remarkably, my part time professional secretary clearly realized (without being told a thing) that what we wanted was to be left alone and she left early. In other words, after the appointment began, the secretary left the premises leaving me alone with this woman in the office.Since the secretary had quickly presumed that the purpose of the appointment did not involve any aspect of the person’s own medical condition, but was made for other reasons, the secretary did not see a reason to wait around to put a stop to what she guessed we both wanted. She let us be. This decision was also clearly a bsignNow of professional ethics. When the only other medical professional left the office, this was no longer even remotely a medical visit, but a full fledged personal encounter in my professional office, not some out of the way hotel.Nonetheless, as I was the trained and responsible professional, it was absolutely my responsibility to not approve what did happen. I never should have agreed to that appointment. If I had made her a call and said no to booking this appointment; then this story would not need to be written. All the extenuating circumstances that I have outlined above are perhaps my hopeless attempt to put my conduct in a better light. Yes, she knew me well. She knew I would be accessible. She already sensed that I too had developed deeper personal feelings for her during our long hospital relationship. She did not come to that office that day ever expecting that I would turn her away - and she was right. If she had fallen in love with me, then I too had fallen in love with her and she knew that, as women know emotional things much, much better than men. I allowed what happened to happen because of my desire and my willingness to fulfill her’s.So we both entered an explosive situation by fulfilling our emotional desires in the most physical ways possible right there in the office, when such an action, beginning as a result of an ostensibly professional context, should have been resolutely avoided. I had prevented other such relationships many times before this one, but this time I did not, because I chose not to, because I deeply desired her, and I acted on those desires. The outcome of that relationship did not work well for either of us; there is no happy story at the end, where we sailed off into the twilight of life happily together. While the feelings between us were at first remarkably intense and pleasurable, they burned way too hot and the end was absolutely terrible. While she took the risk of initiating this relationship by coming to my office that evening, I willingly took the plunge when my life circumstances were way too complicated already. This story reflects one of my very deepest regrets in my life. When I ended this relationship, I caused some real devastation. Had we met at another time in our lives, in another context, in some other land, she might have been the sustained deep love of my life and I would be writing some happy story. That was not our fate at all.We met in fire, we loved with great heat, and any chance for a stable life together was burned by that fire, only the ashes remain.

How should one fill out the DAF form for the UPSC civil services?
1) Things to keep in mind while filling your DAF1. DAF is not like your resume, the more achievements the more you will score. Here DAF is only a way to know about you so that they can ask questions.2. Please do not try to fake or write for the sake of writing. If there is no achievement, then don’t create one, no hobby then don’t write fake one .3. Be specific. For you music might be a hobby (listening in free time), but they will expect you to know about music in detail. . You might like cooking but they will ask you anything related to cooking ( about preservatives, masalas, cooking recepies, types of cuisines etc).So better to avoid writing such open ended things. Write specific things which you know you can prepare.a4. Writing something and not able to answer basic questions related to those things sends a very wrong impression. When you are filling DAF ensure you write less but meaningful things you are confident about.2) Service Preference ListImportant : These are my personal views which can be biased. Detail about each service, growth opportunities can be found here http://persmin.gov.in/AIS1/Welco...Brief about Services1. IASGood work, Good Infrastructure and highly respectable. Issue is interference and work pressure. If you want a very peaceful life and tension free life then think about it.2. IFSWork as diplomats. Good services, especially for people who like to travel, pursue intellectual hobbies. You will have alternate terms in foreign country and India. Yes do give a consideration from family perspective and secondly from perspective that if you want paraphernalia you will not get it.3. IPSMostly work is in law and order domain. Lot of power, infra and Paraphernalia. However IPS is a very tough job and not everyone is made for it. It needs lot of patience, sacrifice in personal life and has maximum interference. So choose accordingly.4. IRS IT and CustomsMy personal advice would be to choose IT over customs ( stable cadre, timely promotions , decent infra and good places of postings) However work can appear to be boring due to a desk job restricted to taxation. Customs on the other hand is having more variety.5. IRTS vs IAASIRTS is IAS of railways. Lot of manpower under you. Good infra and facilities. However issue is very hectic life especially if you are in operations side as you have to manage timely running of trains. So don't opt it if you want a peaceful and tension free life.IAAS on the other hand is a totally different service. It audits almost everything in government. Remember it is not just auditing of accounts here but a larger purview. Also stable posting, normal working hours, postings in state capital and Delhi plus lot of foreign visits and yes timely promotions. Plus everyone fears an auditor. However you won't enjoy executive powers and perks like IRTS. So decide what kind of life you want.6. Accounting ServicesIRASBest among accounting services. Total financial power in railways. Good infrastructure, work life balance and good postings. Plus lot of opportunities for deputation due to finance.IDASThis is also a good service. Lot of financial power in defence sector. Good infrastructure, work life balance and good postings. Plus lot of opportunities for deputation due to financeICASThis is more of an accounting service. It has the responsibility to consolidate accounts of all the Dept except few. Posting in Delhi. However housing, car can be an issue.IPTAFSThis service has lost lot of ground due to BSNL and MTNL separating from DoT. So major work is collecting spectrum allocation and licence fee. Infrastructure issues are also there.7. Railway servicesRailway services have good infrastructure and facilities. Housing, car and manpower is not an issue.IRTS - IRAS - IRPSIRPSNot much work, dealing with unions and personnel management .RPFI would suggest to fill it among the bottom 5 services. Its like paramilitary force (Railway Protection Force)8. IPoSGood service. Administration of all post offices. Good infra and facilities. Plus post office's are getting modernized so new work is coming up.9. IDeSThis is a service where you work as CEO of cantonments/defence estates. There is huge infrastructure at your disposal, very good facilities. However growth is stagnant, work is not dynamic. Also you will not always be working in cantonments, HQ postings and other postings are there as well.10. ICLS and ITSBoth are new age services with postings in Capital cities and Delhi. ICLS are regulators of corporate sector. They implement company law and are involved in Registration, M&A, and Liquidation etc. Service seems to have a promising future but as of now it is not much preferred. Reasons include Infrastructure problem, desk work and stagnation as the top level.IT on the other hand deals with trade policy implementation. Officers working closely with traders and exporters. Also working in SEZ, policy work and some International exposure. So work is interesting and promising.Issue with both the services is similar. These are comparatively new service & do not have a huge infrastructure compared to postal, defence and railways. So Car, housing, other facilities might be a little problem. Also at senior level stagnation issue.11. IoFSNot much of an idea but their scope is more or less related to management of ordinance factories. Infra won’t be much of an issue. But usually filled among bottom few services12. Danics & DanipsThese are like State civil services(UT civil service) with a difference that promotions are better compared to most of the states. Many people prefer them at the bottom due to Group B. However in terms of power, work, infra these are better than many group A central services.13. Indian Information ServiceThis is like a PR Job. Most IIS officers work in various media units which are under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting such as DD News, All India Radio, Press Information Bureau etc. Even posted with various Ministries as spokespersons to handle the Ministry's information and communication needs and help in policy formulation. So work wise this is a nice service, plus majorly you stay in Delhi. Infrastructure, car housing is again an issue.14. AFHQ + Pondicherry civil serviceBottom services to be filled. Now how to fill service preference listSee this is a totally personal choice depending on what you want from your life. What matters to you : balanced life ? Quality work ? Power & Infrastructure? Delhi Posting? Decide accordingly. Here are some hints based on common choice1. Most preferred services (IAS – IFS –IPS – IRS IT –IRS Customs – IRTS /IAAS) .2. Less preffered services ( AFHQ , Pondicherry civil services , RPF, IoFS, IPTAFS ,ICLS )3. Middle Category ( IRAS, IDAS, ICAS, IPOS,IDES,ITS,IIS,IRPS)As per meIRTS >IRAS>IRPSIRAS>IDAS>ICASIPOS>IDESIDAS>IDESICAS, IIS, ITS (one is accounts, other is media/PR and one relates to Trade. Usual preference is ICAS – IIS-ITS)4. Adjust DANICS & DANIPS as per your convenience. Some people prefer them after Railway, Defence and Postal while majority put it at the end. Decide as per your own choice.Delhi Posting : ICAS , IISServices where Infrastructure won’t be an issue (Apart from Most preferred services ): IRAS,IRPS,IPOS,IDES,IDAS . I think infra will not be an issue even in IOFS and RPF.3) CADRE PreferenceP.S : Totally personal views. For details you can refer here http://www.iascoachingindelhi.or...UP: great work opportunities and infrastructure. But if you don't want an exciting and challenging life, it should not be high on your list.Bihar: Mostly like UP but more backward.MP, Rajasthan, Haryana: Good cadres. Balanced ones. Usually preferred by people.Punjab: Mixed reviews about the cadre.Jharkhand and Chattisgarh, Odisha: People carry lot of misconceptions. These are nice cadres to work plus good infra. Naxal problem is prevalent only in certain areas. Other issue is these are little backward areas. But I think these are highly underrated cadres .Uttarakhand and Himachal : Decent cadres to work but terrain issues. Not everyone likes hill posting so keep that in mind.Northeast cadres : Mostly people fill them lower in their preference due to factors like distance, culture, hills, personal life etc. Assam-Megahalya is the most preferred choice among north east cadres.J&K : considered a tough posting. Hills + security concerns etc.West Bengal and Kerala : Work wise normal but their political setup is different so many people don't prefer these cadres. So decide accordingly .Andra and Telangana : Good cadres to work. North Indians prefer them most among southern states.Karnataka: fineTamil Nadu : state services is very strong here so at times they hold important posts in the district .Maharashtra : Good cadreGujarat : Mixed reviews.Agmut: mixed reviews. Good thing is you get to stay for long in Delhi.Making choicesI can’t tell you what to opt. But I can share what people preferably fill at lower preference. Again as per my knowledge.- North eastern States- J&K- Kerala and WB ( some people prefer to fill them low)Also sharing some favoured cadres due to different reasons:- Rajasthan, Haryana, MP (Delhi proximity and balanced cadres )- UP & Bihar (Strong power centres for IAS)- AGMUT (Delhi posting, but not for those who like UP , Bihar work culture )- Sorry but I am not able to comment on south Indian cadres due to lack of in depth knowledgeCadres considered bad but are actually not- Chhattisgarh and JharkhandThat is all from my side. Hopefully this post can help you to some extent. All the best

What are common scams in India?
“Food Delivery Applications/Websites”This happened with me this afternoon. I thought of ordering food from KFC, So I just went through Zomato android app, searched for the restaurant, selected my meal box and was about to make the payment.Suddenly I've realized that these prices are not actual. Attaching here the screenshot of my order zomato cart. The things is to notice here is the '5 in 1 Zinger Box' price. The price was ₹227.62 + Taxes. So the total cart value was ₹289But as I've written earlier, I've found this a bit fishy, Hence I've decided to visit KFC (Rockline mall, Jalahalli cross, Bengaluru)After signNowing there, I've ordered the same '5 in 1 Zinger Box', and guess what? Voila !I got the total bill of ₹199, In that '5 in 1 Zinger Box' was of only ₹189.60 and including taxes, total bill was of ₹199. Attaching here the bill for sameFor 1 sec. I thought, how the same meal box is ₹38 more on Zomato? So I asked to the person at KFC, Is it regular price or I got any discount? He said, No sir, It is the regular price.I don't know, If Zomato is charging more, Or they are not considering restaurant offers, Or KFC has listed the prices more on Zomato. But, This scam is going on. And I was about to be a victim of this. Please check once next time when you visit any restaurant, on Zomato or other food delivery apps as well. You might feel a difference in prices. Thanks For Reading.Be Aware. Try to visit restaurant if it is nearby.P.S. So the total cost will be ‘X+Y+Z’, which is fair enough. But we don’t know that, food delivery companies will take extra commission from restaurant, apart from ‘Y & Z’, so restaurant is not going to give them from their pocket, hence they add that commission in the list price (which happened in this particular case). Now directly we can see here the difference and understand that, customer was already paying for the delivery and services as ‘Y & Z’, but the commission also is going from customer’s pocket. So the total cost which should be ‘X+Y+Z’ , apparently became ‘X+c+Y+Z’.The food delivery company is charging for delivery and services transparently, but the hidden commission is also there, which end customer has to pay.Edit 2: Thanks for 1k upvotes. Please share some more examples like this, if you have any.

How can I close a UK based LTD company that I created a few days ago?
Regardless of whether you have created your company a few days ago or a few years ago, if you meet the following requirements then you will be easily able to strike off your company from the public register. If your company is a limited company, then firstly you would have to get the consent of all of the company directors and shareholders. If you are concerned with your budget, then the cheapest way to do it is by striking off your company from the Company Register.Striking off your companyYou need to meet certain criteria such as:Your company hasn’t traded or sold off any stock in the last 3 monthsYour company hasn’t changed names in the last 3 monthsYour company isn’t threatened with liquidationYour company has no agreements with creditors, eg a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA)If you do meet this criteria, then you should follow these steps:Close down your companyannounce your plans to interested parties and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)make sure your employees are treated according to the rules dealing with your business assets and accountsYou need to fill in an application and send a copy within 7 days to anyone who could be affected. This includes members, creditors, employees, managers or trustees of any employee pension fund and any directors who didn’t sign the application form.If your company employs staff, you must:follow the rules if you make staff redundantpay their final wages or salaryYou’ll need to tell HMRC that your company has stopped trading and will soon be dissolved. Once you’ve paid the final balance of PAYE and National Insurance, ask HMRC to close down the company’s payroll scheme. You should make sure that any business assets are shared among the shareholders before the company is struck off. Anything that’s left will go to the Crown - you’ll have to restore the company to get anything back. You must send final statutory accounts and a Company Tax Return to HMRC.If you take assets out of the company before it’s struck off, you might have to pay Capital Gains Tax on the amount. You might be able to get tax relief on this through Entrepreneurs’ Relief. You will work this out on your personal Self Assessment tax return. You must keep business documents for 7 years after the company is struck off, eg bank statements, invoices and receipts. If the company employed people, you must keep copies of its employers’ liability insurance policy and schedule for 40 years from the date the company was dissolved.2. Apply to strike offTo apply to strike off your limited company, you must send Companies House formDS01.The form must be signed by a majority of the company’s directors. You should deal with any of the assets of the company before applying, eg close any bank accounts and transfer any domain names. When your company is dissolved, all the remaining assets will pass to the Crown (including any bank balances).3. What happens nextYou’ll get a letter from Companies House to let you know if you’ve filled in the form correctly. If you have, your request for the company to be struck off will be published as a notice in your local Gazette. If nobody objects, the company will be struck off the register once the 3 months mentioned in the notice has passed.A second notice will be published in the Gazette - this will mean the company won’t legally exist anymore (it will have been ‘dissolved’).Hope that helps and if you need further help and you have any questions, you can email me at Alexandra@linkilaw.com or directly on Linkilaw.

Shouldn't guns have at least as many requirements as getting a driver's license in the U.S.?
There are those who say that the government should regulate gun permits (and therefore ownership) in exactly the same way it regulates driver’s licenses. This position ignores the US Constitution and the Second Amendment, however, as this grants as a RIGHT the right to bear arms.Given that this is a defined RIGHT in the US Constitution, I would ask if you would similarly suggest that other rights be similarly regulated, such as the right to freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and protections to personal property. Should these be licensed too as rights? For instance, should a person have to apply to the government for a permit to exercise their free speech rights? Should the press have to register and get a license to practice their freedom of the press rights?I think you would say NO, in capital letters.Several points of discussion follow:Those who disagree with the Second Amendment right to bear arms should fight to repeal the Second Amendment, not seek to dilute or invalidate that right by unconstitutional legislative action. To do so requires an amendment to be introduced, passed, and then ratified by 2/3s of the states in the USA. That’s simple enough — except that those who wish to eliminate or limit the right to bear arms know that it will never get ratified by 2/3s of the states and probably wouldn’t even get ratified by 1/2 of the states. That fact reflects on the democratic expression of America on this issue. Ignoring that they are essentially ignoring the democratic and popular interest, the anti-gun lobbies thus seek other means to get their way.For further discussion purposes and to head off pointless arguments that rehash age-old issues, the Supreme Court’s Heller decision makes clear that to exercise the right to bear arms, the gun-owner need NOT NOT NOT be a member of a militia. This was a point that needed clarification given that the anti-gun lobby was clamoring to make that a requirement to own a gun. On careful review, the Supreme Court ruled on the matter and put the issue to bed.The Heller ruling will likely stand for decades to come as it is unlikely that the Supreme Court will take up many gun cases in the near term (the previous gun rights case was over 70 years earlier if memory serves). I would suggest that people look up and read the Heller decision and the dissenting opinion(s) as it can form a very educational starting point for any discussions on gun rights in America. As to the RIGHT to bear arms, just because it is enshrined in the US Constitution does not mean that reasonable restrictions cannot be legally to be applied, such as denying guns to felons or the insane, etc.. However, licensing as you suggest, which implies mandatory training, initial and recurring testing to ascertain qualifications, is not likely legal, nor will it likely ever be applied on a national basis. On a state by state level, the legislatures may pass laws with varying terms that limit ownership or require certain types of licensing, but where they cross the line and violate the right enshrined in the US Constitution, those laws will likely also be overturned, one by one.The common arguments heard that the number of school shootings, mass shootings, etc., in America more than justifies a repeal of the Second Amendment or draconian restrictions on gun ownership — ala Australia — is spurious. The US Constitution stands. One can claim that the number of deaths warrant sharp restrictions and that the Founding Fathers did not foresee the future deadly nature of automatic weapons, etc., but this is all a matter of educated opinion. If the argument is compelling enough then 2/3s of the states should be persuaded to ratify a repeal of the Second Amendment — clearly, the argument falls flat.A final point, referenced just prior, is the argument that the Founding Fathers could not have foreseen the deadly nature of automatic weapons ignores that if gun ownership is to be limited to flintlock, black powder, single shot Revolutionary War era weapons. To hold that position ignores the precedent it sets that can be applied to other rights as well — should the press, for instance, be disallowed from using radio, television, email, cable, modern printing presses, magazines, modern postal systems, digital distribution through the web, etc., simply because those technologies were not around during the Revolutionary War. Clearly, the Founding Fathers didn’t see that the press might someday be 24/7/365, global, and entirely digital — they never imagined the world we live in, and so the rights should be restricted to the world’s technologies and understanding of the time…. I think any reasoned person would say no.Ultimately, I am not saying that gun violence is acceptable. I am not saying that the number of mass shootings should not bring the nation to look at alternatives. I am, however, saying that I support the US Constitution and the law of the land and I am absolutely confirming that I believe in America’s democratic system of government. I respect that the Second Amendment is a defined right, equal to all other rights granted in the Bill of Rights, and should be in full force and effect until it is amended or repealed by a democratic vote in accordance with the process laid out for amending the US Constitution. Holding this position is a confirmation that I am an American and a patriot. However, holding a position that seeks to repeal or replace the Second Amendment is also your right as an American. The path is laid out in law before you on what must be done to democratically achieve your goals. If the nation agrees and 2/3s of the states ratify, you may achieve those goals. No current amendment to change or repeal the Second Amendment is in draft or under consideration — why not? If you believe that gun ownership should not be a right, then get started on changing it — the right way and not in ways that are unconstitutional (as these are illegal on their face). Denying an American of their rights is a severe offense. Finally, I don’t suppose that you believe that licensing is required for you to exercise the right to call for changes of the US Constitution. Perhaps you might next claim that this too should require a license — you know, one similar to a drivers license, where they test you for political knowledge and organizational skill, etc., before you have a right to oppose and advocate for a repeal of the Second Amendment?
