Hey, I applied for Passport on 18th Jan 2018.Here is the timeline :26 Jun 2017 - Filled the form and made the payment. Had to cancel the appointment since I had incomplete documents.17 Jan 2018 - Scheduled the appointment. This time I had the following documents with me. (Aadhar Card, PAN Card, 10, 12 and Graduation Marksheet).18 Jan 2018 - Went to the Passport Seva Kendra (Kolkata) and the whole process took me an hour. (15 minutes for the actual work), rest of the time I was waiting for my turn at the counters. Same day I received SMS stating “Police Verification Request has been initiated to respective thana.”24 Jan 2018 - Police informed me that I had given wrong Police Station in the Passport Application. Told me a very lengthy and time consuming procedure to get the same rectified. I gave up hope and since was out of station at that time, thought of following up once I am back in Kolkata.28 Jan 2018 (Sunday) - I am back in Kolkata and sent a message to the Police officer for helping me with my situation. He only said that he will call me back later.30 Jan 2018 - I check the status of my application online and now it says that Police Verification initiated at “CORRECT” Police station. I thanked the Police Officer.2 Feb 2018 - I receive a message from Police Station regarding my application and for arranging a time for Police Verification. I already had all the documents so asked the Officer to come to residence for verification the same day. He came to the residence and checked all my documents. Asked for Birth Certificate and Bank Passbook (National Bank). I didn’t have both. I live with my Uncle and Aunt in Kolkata. So he asked me to provide NOC from my Uncle stating that he has no objection if I apply for International Passport from his address and using the same. Also while leaving he hinted towards some bribe to be paid on the next meet (When I will give him NOC).3 Feb 2018 - I then arrange the NOC alongwith Aadhar Card of my uncle. In the evening I again went to meet the Police. I carried Rs. 2000/- with me since the bribe varies from (Rs. 500/- to 2000/-). I met with him, gave him the NOC and Aadhar Card. He then said to give some money. I handed him Rs. 500/-. He took the amount happily and we shook hands and then left.4 Feb 2018(Sunday) - I again receive a call from Police saying that they need an Electricity Bill or Gas Connection/Telephone Bill of the address. Again I am frustrated since I didn’t have any of these. I call my uncle and he tells me that they don’t have any Electricity Bill since the same is included in Maintenance Charges. I talk with the Police and he tells me that even Maintenance Bill would do.5 Feb 2018 - I send him scan copy of Maintenance Bill. He says that the same would do.7 Feb 2018- I receive two messages :“Police has submitted a Clear report for your address.”“Passport Printing initiated for your File No. XXXXXX. You will receive SMS once your passport is printed.12 Feb 2018 - I receive another message “Passport printed for your File No. XXXXXX. You would receive an sms/email once the passport is dispatched.”13 Feb 2018 - CAXXXXXX : Passport No. RXXXXXX dispatched on 13/02/2018 and can be tracked using Speed Post Tracking No. PXXXXXXXIN.14 Feb 2018 - I receive a call from my aunt mentioning that postman has come home to deliver the passport. I was again Out of Station (Official Trip) and neither my aunt or uncle were at home. Only the maids were there. So I call one of the maid and the postman is arguing with him (Male Servant) saying that he will send the passport back as I don’t stay there and all. I try to calm him down but he isn’t ready to listen. So I ask another maid who is fluent in local language to ask him how much money he wants. He asks for Rs. 500/-. I tell them to give him the amount and collect the passport.18 Feb 2018 - I went back to Kolkata and finally had the passport in my hands.Now before you say that I support Bribery, I don’t. It’s just that I gave the bribe to Police since they have the habit of delaying the process if the bribe is not given.Post Man - Since I will again go out of town on 22 Feb 2018 and will return after 10 days. During that period my Passport would be sent back to Passport Office and since my Office Hours are from morning 10 till evening 7 and its hard for me to get out during this time.I am not justifying the Bribe that I gave. It’s just its become pretty difficult to get any work done especially when you are in a different state (Kolkata) since I am not fluent in Local Language. So I had the following documents with me:Aadhar CardPAN Card10, 12, Last Qualification CertificatePolice Official asked for the following documents :Birth Certificate (Didn’t have)National Bank Passbook (Didn’t have)NOC from the Owner of house /*Only when the house is on someone’s name apart from you or your parents*/. (Got from Uncle)Electricity/Gas/Landline/Maintenance Bill (Got from Uncle)Voter ID/Aadhar Card/Passport of Owner of house /*Only when the house is on someone’s name apart from you or your parents*/. (Got from Uncle)Voter ID/Aadhar Card/Passport of parents. (Mother sent the photo of both documents on Whatsapp).So it took me less than 1 month even though I am staying in a different state and mentioned wrong Police Station in Passport Application Form.Request you to please fill up the form carefully and once in Passport Seva Kendra please inform if any information needs to be rectified.

I have read all the answers here but none seems have addressed the question properly.Let me try to enlighten about the procedure of Police Verification so that none should get worried or confused.After applying for a Fresh or Renewal of the passport, the PSK/PRO initiates a verification task to the applicant’s district Superintendent of Police office. At the same time, the application and related data are uploaded to the CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems) in the office of the state’s Special Branch i.e. the intelligence department of state police.The district Superintendent of Police office assigns a police personnel to verify whether the applicant is really a resident of the address mentioned by the applicant in his/her application.(At this point most people are confused because of some police personals’ way of the act to verify the resident.)As the applicant has mentioned his/her Police Station in the Passport Application, the mentioned Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge needs to ensure that the applicant really a resident under the Police Station and the names of the applicant’s parents and spouse are correct or not. To verify this the Officer-in-Charge assigns another police personnel for the task or if the applicant is personally known to him then the OC does that his own.WHY THIS: After your Passport is issued, it’s none of anyone’s business if you go died anywhere of this world, but it’s the Police Station mentioned in your Passport. If you die out of your local Police Station’s jurisdiction, then your local Police Station will be assigned to inform this to your family. (This might sound a joke to you. But you have to read all the steps to get clear.)After the Police Station verifies the applicant, the officer-in-charge of the same sends the report to the district Superintendent of Police office for the further procedure of verification. Then the district Superintendent of Police office sends the report to the applicant’s State Headquarter of Speical Branch (the intelligence department of state police). At this point, the hidden procedure is maintained which are not known to the most applicant.This police verification has nothing to do with your other documents. Because entire police verification system is done under the applicant’s State Headquarter of Speical Branch i.e. the Intelligence Branch. The Special Branch headquarter has the database of applicant’s information. Indeed it’s the branch which has all the criminal records. Its the Special Branch HQ office, who will verify if you have filed any incorrect data i.e. if there is any legal issue pending or there is probably an issue related to Law and Order. If the Special Branch HQ office has any adverse data about you, then the report will be sent to the applicant’s Passport Office as Adverse. Otherwise, if there is no such adverse record, information about you at the said office, then the office will send a Clear report.The state police’s Special Branch chief holds the legal authority to signNow the applicant as same as any First Class Magistrate. It doesn’t matter if you have applied for Normal or Tatkal Passport, but approval of the Special Branch is mandatory to the Passport office. Even if you have no legal issues pending in any court, if the Special Branch has a record of your silent/secret activity that is considered to be a matter related to law and order, then they are not going let you out of the country, no matter who you are or the passport application is Normal or Tatkal. In the case of Tatkal application, the Special Branch of the police has more power to stop you because TATKAL itself is “hurry up and get out of the country”.This is why some clever people use to submit pre-signed Certificate from a First Class Magistrate with their application form to avoid any police verification and delay of passport approval. In that case, the First Class Magistrate becomes the legal guarantor of the applicant with some extra-legal power over the applicant.Because of the malfunctioned system, Indian people mostly have a thought that Police personals are with some extraordinary power. Indeed this thought is the reason for corruption or fear to police.The local Police Station and the district Superintendent of Police office has a specified level of the task of the Police Verification part, not the complete part.It's neither about a Normal or Tatkal application nor about the document, criminal case pending against you. The local Police Station and the district Superintendent of Police don’t hold any capacity to signNow the applicant as the final. The hidden procedure of the Complete Police Verification part goes this way: Special Branch->Applicant’s district Superintendent of Police->Special Branch->Passport Office. This is a totally secret procedure that is not informed to the applicant. Nor it is written anywhere in any official document.If you haven’t done anything that is under the scanner of your state police’s Special Branch department, then get relaxed and be a good citizen by co-operating/informing/approaching Higher Authorities if the police personnel who is assigned to verify you harasses you.Do not be confused about the procedure. Gain knowledge and use to visit higher authorities if needed.We know the system is not 100% good. But there is at least 0.01% good people in all systems. For this 0.01% good people in this earth, we are living yet.Have the faith on the 0.01%. Be one of them to increase the percentage. This way a good society, good system, good country and everything good happens.Hope I have been able to address the question. If any confusion is there, do not hesitate to ask. But please don’t ask how the procedure that is secret and known to me.A secrecy to be maintained as it is.

Though Passport application process looks smooth from outside But in reality Its not.I have applied for renewal of my passport in Marathalli,Bangalore PSK.My Old passsport was issued from Bhubaneswar.On the Appointement day I signNowed with all my docs and went to the Tatkal Counter where I got surprise saying my old passport police verification file is not found online and I have to go back and apply on normal.The guys behaviour was so rude that he gave a very ugly look.Then I argued for 10 mnts why they have not uploaded and lost my file.After a long discussion he refered me to APO.I met APO and also got simillar response.Then after a long discussion she accepted my file on the basis if BBSR office fax my file which indeed I told them to do.They knew this process but they were not  telling just to avoid.So finally my  application was accepted and I got the acknowlegement saying application is hold and escalated to RPO Bangalore.I went to RPO bangalore and got my Toke no 211 and slot was 2.30PM.The RPO bangalore is also horrible where though they have many counters but only 2-3 counters were operatiing.So finally I got call for my  token and checked where he just refered to RPO for which I was waiting there till 2.30 PM from morning.Then I went to meet the most irritating lady I have seen in my Life is the RPO.She checked and told that they will sent request to BBSR to send my file.After two days BBSR People sent a Fax to Bangalore RPO.Once I got a mail saying fax has signNowed Bangalore I went to meet RPO Bangalore.This time I thought she would grant but again I got surorised saying since file is not found there should be police verification.I argued saying why u have not initiated my Police verification from the day one.I have applied on Tatkal and why are you dealing such a long time.Then I said please tell when I would get my appsport and she said she doesnt know.I said since  my application is on tatkal and I could see its not processed on tatkal Page on mode. So please refund my  tatkal charge i.e Rs.2000.Then she was speechless and   referd to one more lady who is even more iritating than her who actually harased me.She said they have initiated my police verification and told its matter of 10 mnts.So I went to police stations and there again same problem.They kept on delaying saying its raining we cant go for verifiaction.They went with all my docs the very next day and they did verification.After this I thought my police verification is done,but I was wrong.Police said Bada sahab is on Holiday and told me to come next week.I am still following up but no luck.Timeline: Appoint Date:30th Oct 2015 to 17th Nov 2015.So the real story  in India is still the same as old.There is no progress.Its not a progressive India and which would be still the dream for us because of the above folks I mentioned in all the levels.

It’s Wednesday morning. Midweek! I took Uber to work. Here is the conversation snippet that happened.But, background first. I am from Delhi. Typical Uber drivers here are from villages adjacent to Delhi with limited knowledge of the routes and can hardly converse in English. (Which is okay, no judgement here. Read on to know why I mentioned this).Me: Music chala dijiye please (Translation: Please turn on some music)Uber Driver: Yes ma’am (without the small town accent). What would you like?*Yes, he said it in English. I was impressed.Me: (now somewhat conscious) Radio would be fine.(I didn't know if he knew only few words and phrases in English but I liked his effort and wanted to encourage this)He: Sorry ma’am. No Radio.Me: Oh! Never mind.Then I started looking out the window. After few seconds he broke the silence and said “But I have some songs if you’d like to listen?”Me: “Sure”He: So, RnB, Hiphop, Old rock or something else?WHAT? What did he just say to me? Wow!He said it while trying to decide on a song in his head I think. But WOW! Is THIS FOR REAL? I was in a mini shock and could only utter “Anything is fine, really”. I continued to look at him in disbelief.He played Ed Sheeran!Dude! What’s happening?Then came eminem. Then Beyonce. Cardi B. Coldplay even.Can you believe this?OK these are very popular songs and artists. Maybe he heard them and made a playlist. Smart guy. Impressive still.But, I was wrong. My surprise didn't end here. This was just the beginning. He was experimenting with genres and seeing which ones I liked more. He practically played DJ during the trip. I don't even know many songs and artist that were coming up in the playlist. All the songs were very peppy and I was tempted to ask him but how many would I ask about? and his driving was smooth too.At the risk of sounding like a snob I asked him: “How do you know these songs?” (Again in English)He: I like music ma’am. That’s how.(Said with such nonchalance that made me sound stupid even to me)Umm okay! Very fair.Me: Do you know the lyrics to this song? I can't quite catch them.He: Yeah many people mishear them. It's … (*worded the entire stanza)So he isn't picking up random stuff. He is actually into music. Nice!Then somewhere down the road he got a phone call. He stopped the car at one side and answered. It was quick and short with some family member I think. But all of it was in pure Haryanvi (a dialect native to the Haryana region in India).Who is this fellow!Later on, I asked if he has any Indian songs.He: Of course!Of course Ritika! Duh!He: Punjabi pasand hoga apko toh (Translation: You must like Punjabi songs)Me: Kyu? Aisa kyu laga apko? (Translation: Why did it seem so to you? )He: Ap lag rhe ho punjabi (Translation: Because you look like one)LOL. L-O-L. Here I was thinking not to sound judgmental and he judged me! One flat sentence. I held back my laughter (this was somehow funny to me)Me: Yes!He played some tracks, good ones. His music choice was great here too. Or at least for me it was great. I was smiling throughout.At one point he changed the track and played a tamil song (I am guessing it was tamil, but could be some other south indian language too).Me: Do you know this language too?(For god’s sake don’t tell me you know the lyrics to this one too, I will faint now)Him: No only English, hindi and haryanvi.(Pheww!)Me: Then how do you get this song?He: Music is a language in itself ma’am.Me: —————————-On point!Crystal clear. And deep.He saw me speechless in the rear view mirror. Gave me a very warm smile. I didn't ask any more questions after that. I was lost in my thoughts. Never before had I wanted the drive to work to continue a bit longer. I didn’t mind the jams. Wasn't worried about getting late to work. My mood was great. And the day ahead seemed bright. It isn't just the music but meeting a person who is cheerful and so dedicated to his work happens less often now. Have you ever met somebody who passes on his positive energy to you? It has become rare these days.My ride lasted for some 108 minutes and those 108 minutes were very educating apart from being lovely (with a personal DJ and a great human).People are more than their jobs. There is so much more to every personality. And conversations are great when simple too.I have been part of conversations and discussions where people are trying to discuss complex criteria using fancy vocabulary to look smart or to appeal to others or to show off or may be that’s how they have become. But this I think qualifies as better than all those. Short crisp and to-the point!P.S. When the ride ended I did compliment him that his music knowledge AND his playlist is great. He smiled and said “Thank you so much ma’am. I am glad you had a nice trip”.Ah! Gentleman! I chortled . :)

A real life juggling with Government officials and facing a problem for over an year, I think I am apt enough to give this answer.Our Government works in departments. With all that I faced personally, this is the thing I have to say- Indian Passport Services is the worst of them all!It is been more than 1 year, I am fighting for my passport. Here is the plot, I think everyone should read.My experience -The date was 22nd of December, 2012  and I applied to PASSPORT SEWA KENDRA (Bhopal). Well, this is the time when, T.C.S.(Tata Consultancy Services) has not overtaken the passport distribution services in India. With all my documents and required formalities, I submitted my application at the Bhopal office.I waited and waited for months to get any update for my status for the application. My Police verification also went on good and I was hoping to receive my passport in no time. With my patience running out, I decided to visit the passport office in Bhopal, myself. When, I went there, it was locked and there was no sign of anyone out there. There was one security guard standing outside. I asked him about the office.I asked -"Is today there is a holiday or something, which I am not aware of?"Guard - "No, the office is closed."I astoundingly inquired again -"Closed as in? Permanently?" He chuckled at me and said - "Yes!"I said again -"So how people will make passport now?"He gawked at me and replied - "I don't know anything, they started a new office in some XYZ address, go there , why bothering me. I am doing my duty here".( Within a night that office was closed, and new one was started.)So, following the annoyed security guard's advice, I signNowed the new office. This office was situated in a Mall. It looks like something of an IT company's office with its interior and arrangements. I was stopped by the guard outside,since I was not having an online appointment to go inside. It was the time when TCS has over-taken the services and it was like all things will be handled systematically. I urged the guard to let me in, since my problem is a bit serious. I also requested one of the personnel from TCS, who was standing outside. He somehow helped me to let me in there. There was a queue at the "inquiry" desk where a man with a formal attire was listening to the grievances of the customers. I waited for my turn. Finally, when I got chance to put my case forward, this was the conversation I had with that "inquiry" counter guy-Guy - " How can I help you"Me - " Hi, I am XYZ and this is my passport file number, dated 22nd December, 2012. I submitted all my documents and got my police verification done, now I am unable to get my status."Guy - "Sir, since your passport application is of December 2012, it is not with us, it is in the old passport office."Me - (I with my poker-face blown into dark light of his eyes, got disturbed) " I am coming from that office only, they said, it is closed."Guy - " Closed! (shocked) How that is possible?, ( He asked his senior and muttered some words with him) , Sir, you have to go to ABC place now. Your file is there, not with us."So, now I went to that ABC place. The place looks gloomy. It was like a typical government office of 80s. People were mobbing around the door of the office and that man was busy eating his lunch inside, who has to listen to the problems of the people. The fan with utter slow speed was running right above his head and staring beneath, stating -" You fool your life is always be slow, like my speed".After fighting the mob down there, I somehow manage to enter the office. This me standing in front of that government official's desks and here goes the conversation.Officer -"What? Can't you see I am having my lunch?"Me- " I know sir, but you can wait for your lunch, there are people standing outside and its an emergency."Officer -"Get out , come after 1:30 pm. "His guard escorted me outside and I became the part of the mob again, no where to be seen in vicinity, while he with is annoying looks was enjoying his lunch to the core.After Mr. official finished his lunch, I was then allowed to enter and tell my story to him. I said everything which I told to the TCS inquiry guy. This is what he said.Official - "We have 1000s of applications everyday, now you are coming and asking about yours, where can I find it?I don't know, your application is with TCS."Me - "I went to the TCS office, they said they don't have my application, it is here in this office."Official - "Are you kidding me, no we do not have it. Go, I have lot of work to do."Me - "At least check no! From the morning I am like running here and there to get the status of my application."Official refused to help me at any cost. I think , maybe because I never offered him a cost(bribe).Now, I was like a football, where the feet were Government office and TCS office, both playing and testing my patience. With some heavy heart and a thought, I went back to TCS office complaining the behavior I was been treated with, by government official. TCS guy - " You wait till 4 pm, I will see where your file is!"Me - "It should be better be with you, sir"TCS guy gawked again and went back to his work. The office was a mass massacre, with people like me. Ignorant about the process and things going on. I waited till 4 pm then went in. The man with some battling with the file cupboard came out with my file and said-"Your police verification is uncleared."Me - " Why? What is the problem? I gave all the documents." He - "Arre!(Your area policeman) He missed to fill some columns "Me- "But then it is his mistake, I did what it takes to get a passport, all formalities are clear from my side. What should I do now?"He - "Now, nothing will happen, go back and ask your police person the actual process behind it."Me - "You don't know the process or what?"He - (with the eyes full of rage and anger) - "Get out! I have lot of things to do. Go back and ask your policeman."Now I was like shocked the way I received the treatment. I with the plight of disbelieve and with no mission accomplish face came back home. The important thing to note here is that I am not a residence of Bhopal. I came back to my city. I was actually upset, that all my day was wasted and I did not get the answer to any of the questions/problems.I came back to my city and went to the police-station which was handling my passport file. This is the conversation with passport personnel.Me - "HI! My name is such and such and I applied for the passport on 22nd December, 2012, I got my police verification done too. But, then I never heard about my passport. I went to Bhopal office, they said that the policemen who verified my passport verification form has missed out few column. What should I do now?"Now read this conversation with the policeman I had, notice the awkward and stupid question he asked.Policeman - "When did you apply?"Me - "22nd December 2012(I kinda remember this date until i die, I might forget my birthday !)" ----------- ALERT stupid questions starts now------------------Policeman - "So why are you coming now?"Me - " Because I got me latest status for file now only".Policeman - "What is your problem? I cannot understand?"Me - The policeman who did my police verification forget to mark some columns in my file and for that my passport status is stuck, I went to Bhopal and they said you (Police) should help me."Policeman -"When did you had your police-verification?"Me - "I don't know. Somewhere in January 2013"Policeman - "Exact date?"Me - " How can I remember that? He came at someday after I applied my passport."Policeman - "Who came for your verification? "Me - "I don't know. Actually I do not remember his name."Policeman - "You don't remember his name? So how you expect me to help you?  and besides do you have any criminal cases pending?"Me - "Well ! I have my passport file number, the date of application etc. you can cross check with your records. How can I remember the name of a policeman who met me once and that too a year ago. And no I don't have any criminal cases pending, if I would have, why I had undergone through the police verification process in the first place itself."Now the hilarious part - He babbled something and that is all what I can make out what he said - "I met my wife on the day of marriage, next day we got divorced, it was 2 years ago, I still remember the name of that bitch."I was like startled and held shell shocked. Whatever may be the joke he made, I was not interested in listening to , rather my focus was entirely on my file.After searching here and there for a while, he pronounced this -"Your file is lost by Passport office, Bhopal"Me - "Are you kidding me, I saw the TCS passport personnel myself, holding my file and telling me that your police verification is unclear."Policeman - "No man! I am telling you, they say this all the time, that we did mistake, it is all them who did. We don't have your police report. Go back to passport office and tell them to send us again."Me-" What do you mean to send us again? Can't you generate a fresh police verification report?"Policeman - "No, they have to clear first." I with my broad-eyed poker face(again!) came back to home telling all this problem to my mom. Since she asked me to wait for a while and lets see what will happen, since now all the passport stuffs are handled by TCS, we should wait for our discrepancies. After a month waiting, I got a letter of objection from TCS passport office stating that -"Your police verification is not clear. Please visit the passport office with necessary documents."I went with all documents again, hoping that this time I will get my passport. I entered, showed the letter to every damn personnel of TCS, I  was meeting. Now this is the piece of conversation I had with passport man.Man - "Why you are here, (after seeing my objection letter)! We have send your file to  SP office. They will send to the police station near your locality and then you will undergo police verification again."Me - "I came all the way to Bhopal, with this objection letter in my hand with all the supported documents you asked and now you are stating me to go back home and wait for my re-verification?"He - "don't talk to me like this. You are not suppose to do that. If you speak like this, you will not get your passport. Now go get out."I was in my disbelieve went back home. I do not know what will be the further process. I was just sitting in my house waiting that a miracle will happen and I will heard from a policeman for the re-verification.With after some month, I went to SP office telling my problem. They said that, my station in my locality has my file, they don't. I went to the station again, all the new faces now. I cannot recognize anybody whom I have seen around for quiet a while because of my frequent visits to the station.I told my problem and they searched and they said this -Police - "We haven't received your file yet,once we do we will call you."Me - (I sat their and started checking my file number. I found mine) "It is here!"Police - " Ahh okay! here. I will come tomorrow to your house and will do the process"Me - " Why not now?"Police - "Arrey! we have work here go get out now. I will do it tomorrow." ( Okay now you have read a bit of a part and, if you still finding it difficult to really imagine then just believe me POLICE DEPARTMENT, which is handling passport related services is the most stupid and idiotic department ever.)I waited him to come to home for the verification process again. He did showed up after I went to the police station 4 times in 2 days to make him remember he has a verification job to do.He gathered all my documents did all the formalities and went. Everything was smooth. I bribed him too, yes I am shamelessly admiring it, because I do not want him to do any more harm to my file. He went and asked me to wait for 15 days to check my online status. I did. Next, when I saw my status again, to my real shocked to power of infinity, it read as  - "Your Police verification is not clear" I was like now what is the problem.I, this time taking the lessons from my last quest went to SP office directly, instead of going to Passport office Bhopal. They refused to cooperate and told me to go to Bhopal for any grievances. I told my entire story to them, for which they have diminishing look and no sign of cooperation for me at all. I was there at that SP office from morning to evening. Somehow, manage to seek help from one person.He opened his system and entered my file number. He found out all the scan documents, I have submitted till now. There he found 10th and 11th number column of the passport police verification form was blank. Actually, the policeman should have fill this and he did not. Due, to that, my file came back to SP office Indore from Passport office Bhopal.Now, I was like ignorantly gawking at the SP office guy.Me - "Now what should I do, its not my mistake."He - "Well ! Even I cannot do anything you will have your police verification again!" Me - "Waoo are you kidding me ! What if that policeman forget to fill those column again? "He - "I cannot help it."So, now since that policeman has not filled a 10th and 11th number column for my passport police verification form. I have to undergo the entire police verification process again. For all those folks who don't know what 10th and 11th number column looks like -This how the typical police form looks like. ( It can be varied form place to place. I downloaded it from net).So, now back to 10th and 11th column. It looks like following.10 - Whether the person is working as in under government services?-  yes/no (A yes no question)11 - Whether the person has applied for passport before? - yes/no ( Again, yes no question)So, now these 2 above column were left blank in my case. I was like good grief. Both the answers for this were "no" for my side, but the idiot policeman forgot to put a "tick" on the "no".For all those who wanted to know the documents for police verification, this is how it goes -1)  When your file is reviewed under passport cell ( PSK or Passport Sewa Kendra) , the file will be delivered to your respective  SP office of your city ( Superintendent of the Police). 2)  After that they will distribute to your respective police stations which are in your respective localities. 3) Then a  fat-ass Policeman (if he has mood) will come to your home for the verification. 4)  He will ask you the questions -"Are you not having any criminal cases running for you?" And you have to say "No" that's it. He will then ask you for the Rs. 10 stamp paper which is required to be attested from the court stating that you have no crime scenes.5) Then, he will do all his formalities writing 2 letters, one for the SP office and other for the passport office. While,filling that above form, I mentioned above and getting signatures of 2 witnesses ( your neighbors) whom you should produce at the time of  verification.6)  Documents to be produced - 2 photo id proofs, 2 proof of your citizenship to your country, 2 address proof , your birth certificate, your 10th and 12th marksheets, if a college doer then, college marksheets, a  passport size photo etc.7)  I have undergone 3 processes, so yes I have experience. But, each time I went through all this, I found certain differences in it. Next and last he will go back to his station and will call you for the personal meeting with TI ( Station in-charge) for your photo verification. After this your file will go to SP office again and from there back to Passport cell.I had my 3 verification now and in all of them, there was only one common mistake, a policeman just forgot to fill 2 of the columns in that police verification form.Day before yesterday I undergone 4th verification of my life ( police has a proof for the 4th time that I am no criminal :D :D) and this time I personally saw my form and 10th and 11th column were filled this time. Even I checked very other column, it was filled Sigh !! (Finger's crossed) Hoping to get my passport this time, finally !Plus- I have bribed them more than the cost of passport.Lesson Learnt-1) Policemen are stupid and at the same time smart-  Yes, you heard me right, they all are. All of them are unaware about the proper process for passport verification. And, they  with their illiteracy do stupid things in the form. And yes they are smart, they do this always to create problem for the people, so that they can get bribe again and again for the same verification file. Everyone will eat your bribe together.2) There is no concrete passport system, and if there is any, than most of the passport officials themselves are not aware of -  This is true, policeman, passport officials etc. are all ignorant for the proper standard procedure for passport application process. I have seen many cases where officer graded person in Passport cell will give you some other advice for a problem and the subordinate of him/her will give you some other advice for the same problem. You end up being confuse which one is right.3) No flexibility in the system -  System is at mockery of the situations. The police system which I stated in my problem is by far the example of my stated point. If the policeman forget to fill 2 columns (just a "yes' or "no" answer) in your file, that means you have to undergo the entire process for verification, there is no other choice, no flexibility. Gather the xerox of all your documents and the no-criminal case affidavit again. The silly mistake  done by the policeman  is your problem, deal with it. And deal with it entirely.4) TCS is playing safe -  When we heard about the private company TCS, taking the charge for passport activities, we were all happy, since we found that  the things will go smooth, but actually this is not the case. The TCS is actually playing very safe. They are undertaking only those files which are perfectly clear. This is how the process TCS follows ( at-least at Bhopal). First, you book a slot online to appear in TCS office with your passport application form filled and with the required documents, they will review it and then they will immediately go for your police verification. If your luck is good unlike mine, then your process will be undertaken by TCS guys very smoothly and within 15 days you will get  your passport. If suppose you are the unlucky Mega-tron like me, then your file will go to the "other" office. This "other" office is undertaken by government officials only, and if your file is gone there, then believe me you are doomed, suffered for an year or so. Trust me, there are so many like me over there suffering from the wrath of government officials. So, TCS is playing it quiet safe here.With all this summing up by saying this, that really the facade of the passport process in our country is very much shoddy. It is like one marathon run with no proper or concrete end. I am here still waiting for my passport.Hopeful this time!Update - I have to make an update for my point in No flexibility in the system, I have seen many young people going for studies or work purposes to different cities or states of the country. Now for that, people have to undergo police verification for all those places too. So, in all you are going for verification from your city, then the city you got relocated. Here, Passport norms have no flexible approach either.
