So you need to go through a reseller.Some factories have their own agents/reps directly on Aliexpress, Alibaba, Taobao and Tmall. And will want you to go through them directly.How it works in China is basically like this.Level 0a) You have the person (or company) that wants the item created, who either designed it or knocked it off. They commission the factories to make the item. These people have the connections (and money) to produce in bulk.Level 1) You have the factories themselves that produce the items.Level 2) You have the distribution centres that buy in massive bulk from factories.Level 3) You then have the small business wholesale companies that buy smaller wholesale orders from the distribution centre. These wholesale companies (also known as sub distributors) have smaller facilities around China Mainland and Hong Kong. These people usually open shops just on Alibaba and deal in bulk orders, they supply most the resellers.Level 4) You then have all the resellers, and small/medium sales businesses that buy from either the distribution centres directly (if they can afford the inventory from level 2). Or they buy small batches from the wholesale companies (level 3) These are the people that open shops on Aliexpress, Alibaba, Taobao and Tmall.Level 5) This is you. You are buying from Aliexpress, Alibaba most likely (not Taobao or Tmall unless you have an agent). You are then buying wholesale and reselling it, or dropshipping.Level 6) This is your customer, they are buying from you because they either don’t know about Aliexpress, or don’t trust it (for online). When doing it this way, ‘some’ factories can produce extras more than you asked them, then they sell the extra to the distribution channels (level 2) (this keeps the factory costs down), then suddenly other sellers now are selling the same item as you.Each level, the price of the product is increased so all levels get profits.Most of the people you deal with in sales, don’t have the actual contact to the factory themselves. When you ask them ‘can you make me this’ ‘can you change this’ ‘can you check with the factory for ____’ etc etc, the sales rep usually says yes, but then they just contact the level above them, who contacts the level above them, who then contacts the factory.You can’t blatantly ask for the contact details of the factory directly because whoever you are talking to wants to make money from you, they want a piece of the pie too.You need to build up your networking. I know people in the space that have been doing this for years, and still can’t get factory contacts because they don’t understand the whole system.Myself, I’ve been to China many times and I’ve toured many factories directly and talked to owners of the factories. I even own my own factories now.
