Wow several issues going on with this situation. This student is being coached, more than likely. Neither student or coach understand the reason for the paper. Reflection. They both think it's admitting fault. They both think it's a waste of time that is meaningless. I'm going to assume that the student responding is not the victim based on the snarky attitude portrayed in their paragraph.As an administrator you have to pick the hill you want to die on, this is not it for me. As the admin if the crime is "serious” then I would call the student to the office and completely ignore their written response. Act like you haven't seen it. He/she is looking for confirmation that you read it. I would ask the questions in another way to get the information neeed and then I would document them as you need them. If the crime isn't a big deal then I would move On. Your job as a principal is to encourage students to change poor behavior. For some instances that means a conversation, others detention, others a phone call home, and others suspension. While consistency is important, it's not necessary to suspend a kiddo who just needs a warning. Our position requires a balance of mercy and justice, while always remembering that the objective is to help change behavior.

I had a foster son who had a successful business selling chocolate bars at school when he was 12 years old. It is difficult to get a massive bureaucracy to wake up and see that a student who has figured out how to run a business at age 12 is a rising star that needs to be encouraged and celebrated. Why wouldn’t they have all the students learn from his business that he is operating right in their own hallways? If preparing students for a career was really the main priority of school they would. But that is not the main priority and therefore they will never celebrate that kind of individual self-taught learning.He was punished for running his business at school. A traditional school’s main priority is not to help students learn to run their own businesses. Schools seem to be more interested in keeping their own system running, and preparing students to do things that require sitting in seats for long hours and doing homework at traditional schools. Independent businesses are scary to teachers and school administrators. Teachers and administrators have filled out endless forms and agreed to work in a massive old-fashioned bureaucracy. So that is what teachers think a career is all about.Traditional school is the last place that will approve of, or encourage, a student learning to run their own business.

When I was twelve, my dad died. I have five siblings and we ranged at the time from seven years old to eighteen. (They weren't.)Why this was so incredibly selfish was because we weren't allowed to grieve anymore after that. We all had to be happy because mom had a new boyfriend-then-husband, and we all felt like we couldn't even talk about Dad anymore. Mom still talked about him but only to force our good behavior, ie: "You are all such terrible children! Your father wanted you to be raised this way and I've sacrificed so much for you...!" He wasn't even a good stepdad. He could have been worse, sure, but he'd fight with mom then storm out of the house and she'd blame it on us.Less than six months after my dad died he and my mom went on a drive and left me to change a curtain rod. I was still twelve and very small for my age, and I couldn't signNow the curtain rod. I tried, hard, but I kept falling off the back of the couch. They got back and saw that I hadn't done it, so the step-dad kept saying to me "Hah, I knew you were useless." while laughing and repeating it over and over like it was hilarious. I lost my temper and said "You're just a fat old man!" (he was 13 years older than my mom so he seemed quite elderly to me.) He, in front of my mother who had been laughing at his denigration of my handyman attempts, grabbed me, shook me hard, and screamed in my face "You stupid little b***ch!" and stormed out of the house.Mom then spanked me for trying to ruin her marriage.I just wanted my dad back, but I couldn't even say that because what if it made the step-dad feel bad?

I didn’t know that Hazel Carby and Henry Louis Gates were friends.He stole my fellowship application ideas and gave them to a Motown family connection, Brent Edwards, currently plagiarizing at Columbia University.By the time Brent got in to Harvard to start working on my Fellowship book outline, I got in Complit at UMass, and out of the Ivy League grapevine. In many ways, this makes teaching more effective.In the 1990s, I remember students majoring in computing who were able to discuss literature, politics, history and other sciences on a regular basis. This is now much less common — almost rare. Students know about pop culture, but don’t seem to know — or care — about other topics. This is one trend I think is unfortunate.I have seen a declining level of respect for professors by portions of the public. Scholarship and the choice to work in academia are no longer respected as they used to be.

Oh my gosh, we went through the same bullshit with my youngest and the elementary school.My youngest son was born on Dec 23, 2000, my Christmas gift. He went to school earlier than most of his fellow classmates. He was 4 years and 9 months old when he entered JK, within 2 weeks at school I got a phone call from school. His 27 yrs old teacher complained he is difficult to handle and suggested he has ADHD. I wanted to smack the FUCK out of her but didn't (please excuse my language). I allowed the school to assessed him, and went to his pediatrician and a specialist at SICK KIDS Hospital. They told me he has a mild condition of the bull crap ADHD and will outgrow once he hits his teen. Every freaking young female teachers would complained, their complaints were he has no focus, distracted the class constantly and they can't handle him. His grade 3 and 6 male teachers never once complained, they put him in the front row close to their desk so they can correct his attention. We ended up putting my son on in grade 7, because I got into an arguement with the teacher, she said he got the attitudes from me. I was pissed but I gave in and put him on , in 2 weeks, the side effects of the medication mellowed my son completely, he lost his appetite, lost 25 pounds, his sleeping habits turned into 3 hours instead of 8 hours or more. I watched my son went through a huge drastic change. I was furious and took him off and demanded a matured male teacher or I will get a lawyer and take the school to court.We won, with the help of our pediatrician and the specialists from the hospital. Don't listen to any of their comments, they are not doctors. Their job is to educate our children with subjects we can't, they are just too damn lazy to work on a smart kid and challenge his intellect. So what if a kid has no focus, work with him/her and the child's parent finding a solution.Don't put him on , find solutions, your child is 4 he can learn with a veteran well trained teacher.

Make sure to find out how they market toward potential members.Strong, shameless advertising. As a new club, you have to be different, and offer opportunities not available in other clubs. You have to make the student population realize that DECA is worth joining because of the possibilities of international competition, business-literacy, etc.After you get some members, stick strong with official DECA. Make sure that you get registered with your regional DECA (if you have one), then state DECA, and finally international DECA. Also make sure to get resources for events. Many students at your new school may not have existing business knowledge, so you’ll have to guide them through the process of DECA and each and every event.
