Fans of the Steelers are fans for life, no matter who the players are. A typical basketball fan liked the Bulls in the 90’s, then the Lakers and then the Heat, and now Golden State or Cleveland. It's a trait football fans despise. Not saying local fans of teams are not loyal, but your average NBA fan will say they root for players more than a team. You don't make plans around watching players, but you do more for a team. NBA fans rarely admit they just cheer for the best teams and players but it is very true.Another problem is the schedule. With football, every game matters. I think the World Cup will be huge but I don't think MSL will ever threaten to cut into the NFL for at least a generation, and if it's forced it will be even longer.The NFL is king and College football second. People like it. There are those who act like that's a bad thing, which is weird to me. Watching certain sports because of your politics is your right, but don't expect me to do the same. I watch all kinds of sports, (I love women's college soccer as an example) and base my decisions first if my hometown has a team, and if I like the sport. Politics has nothing to do with what I watch. I cheer for one team in a league, and never switch my favorite team (unless my hometown gets a new franchise). That seemes to be a rarer thing these days outside of football and maybe baseball to a lesser extent.
