The process is relatively simple. Of course, you should check with each airline as their processes may differ slightly, and you’ll need to confirm that your weapon and/or its configuration and accessories are legal where you are going (flying to a state with a magazine capacity ban for instance). But generally, you do the following:Unload the firearm and lock it in its own container within your checked luggage.Lock the ammunition in a separate container. You can also keep the ammunition in its original box and place it in your bag, but outside of the container where the firearm is being stored. From personal experience, ammunition storage varies. I’ve had airlines allow me to store 3 loaded mags within the same case, but separated from the firearm. To avoid complications/delays, I recommend storing it in the factory box and outside of the gun case.Check in at the airline counter and inform the agent that you are checking a firearm. S/he will have you fill out a declaration form. Again, this varies by airline, but you will generally be asked to open the case with the gun for inspection (they are checking to confirm it’s unloaded) and you will be asked to either put the declaration tag on top of the firearm in the case, or on top of the case within your luggage. Lock the case and close your bag. Bag should have a TSA approved lock on it. Firearm case can have any lock you choose. I would not use a TSA lock on the gun case itself. There should be nothing placed on your bag by the Agent that indicates openly that you have a firearm in the bag. If they stick something that says “firearm in bag” or anything to that effect, ask to speak to a supervisor and elevate it. Bottom line, you don’t want any unwitting person knowing you have a gun in the bag or the bag will likely be stolen.You and the Agent will walk the bag to TSA screening where it is usually fast tracked onto the belt. You are then required to wait there until the bag has been screened (in case they need you to open the gun case). Assuming everything looks good to the screener, you’re given the all-clear and you head for security/your gate, etc.You are not required to do anything special on the other end of the flight. Collect your bag from the belt as you would any other piece of luggage. Confirm discretely that the firearm made it along with your bag. DO NOT PULL THE FIREARM OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AIRPORT to do this. I will usually find a quiet place to do a quick check, or take it into a stall in a bathroom and check it privately there.I have followed the above on United, American, Southwest, Delta, Alaska Airlines, AirTran (before being purchased by Southwest), and JetBlue without any issues.

This is from my experience of applying for LL in Bangalore in January 2018. The process is quite simple and easy if you are mindful of the facts, know the whatabouts and howabouts, and tick all the checkboxes before visiting a RTO. It is not done entirely online.I have got my LL done from RTO Koramangala (KA 01) so these instructions would be more suitable if you are visiting the same.STEP1: Fill up application onlineI. Go to parivahan.gov.in and select “Driving Licence Related Services” from the two options appearing in the middle of the page. Which will take you to another page (most likely it will open another tab in your browser)II. Select your state from the drop down menu.III. Select “Apply Online” and then “New Learner’s Licence” from the drop down menu. Then follow the instructions given in the page.Important Note: Fill up the application with your name axactly as in your documents. Upload one document for address proof and the other for date of birth proof. They do not consider the same document for both address and DOB verification even though there is mention of DOB. You must produce originals of the documents you have submitted online when you visit the RTO in person. A passport size photo and your signature(separately) need to be uploaded (max size 20kb). Form1 needs to be filled, marked up, signed, scanned and uploaded. You need not print the Form1 to markup and sign. I have done all on my iPad. It is also possible from any computer. Blank Form1 is available in the ‘upload documents’ section for download. Make sure you have booked the test slot for the day you will visit the RTO. In cases of visiting multiple times make sure test slot is booked for that particular day again. You might face some running-arounds if you fail to do so.DO NOT PAY ONLINE. The payment gateway does NOT work! It will be very difficult or impossible to get it refunded.STEP2: Visit RTO in personI. Get copies of the online application and the online submitted documents and staple them into one pile.II. Provide the application pile to the first counter(netted counter) and make payment when asked. They will staple a challan into your application and hand it back to you.III. Take the application to the counter which they would have instructed you to go to and handover to the person sitting there, who will give you a token number in return. Remember the number.IV. Queue up and wait until your token number is called.V. Enter and walk up to the officer’s desk when called and provide the originals of the documents submitted.VI. Wait outside until one of them comes out and calls out your number and hand you the signed application and send you for LL test.VII. Queue up for test as instructed by the instructor.VIII. Appear for test. Once you are done they will send you home saying “you will receive an SMS”After couple of hours you will receive the SMS notifying you of the approval of your LL. Hello everyone,Thanks for providing the precis answers. It helped a lot. I was reading the answers from this forum quite a lot. And today I experienced it after applying for my employment VISA and dependent VISA for my spouse and my kid. Below is what I went through.I started at 6:30 in the morning from Kalyan as I had the interview scheduled at 9:00 AM at the German Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mumbai. We signNowed there by 8:45 AM and unfortunately my turn was after lot of people. So lessons learnt. You need to signNow atleast by 8:00 AM if you want to enter soon. Else you will jave to wait outside the gate on the footpath in a line for atleast an hour. I was standing for 1.5 hours even with my kid and wife. The security guard who is very rude just checks the appointment letter and verifies with his paper that he has. After this one by one everyone enters in. So it takes atleast 10 minutes to let the second person in after first person enters the gate. The gate remains totally closed and opens when directed by a security guide inside. After you go inside, still you are not in an air conditioned room. There would be a standing fan cooling atleast 70 people. Thankfully people are given chair to sit inside. Then you have to shift to the chairs one after the another as your turn nears. You still do not need to arrange your documents. Just keep 2 DD forms filled and original passport ready. There would be a person calling you and he will ask for your priginal passport, 1 photo and DD. My DD cheque did not had the full name. The name on DD was Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany. I told him that ,Mumbai is missing in the DD name. He said it is OK as far it is payable in Mumbai. I took a sigh of relief. The DD amount was 4300 Rs for me and my wife. 2300 for my kid. I gave 3 passports for me, my wife and my kid. Three photographs as well. The officer verified the details and provided only 1 token number for 3 of us. He asked to pickup a checklist for each member and arrange the document accordingly. Do note the documents need to be arranged in the serial order after meeting the officer else the next officer will not check your application. We took 3 checklist; 1 for employment VISA and 2 for family reunion. Do note the checklist available on website is a bit different than the one available inside. Only the serial order is different. The documents are same. We prepared 2 sets of each application. Then started the lon await. We were given token 30. It was 11:00 AM. Then it took 4 hours to get to the counter for submitting the application. We were really frustrated. You cannot really get outside of the gate once you are inside. But as I had kid I requested them to let me out to have some food for the kid. You can also request them and get out of the gate to have some food and then come again soon early. After my token number was announced, we all 3 went inside and there you get an airconditioned room with 4 counters. I went to counter 4 as it was announced and submitted all the documents. The gorgeous lady validated the document asked few questions. Which city are you going sir? I am going to dusseldorf. What kind of VISA are you applying for? I am applying for work permit. Where are you currently working? I was working with abc company. Oh!! that means you have resigned from the current organisation? Yes I did already. Can I have the german version of the work contract? Yes I do have. I need 4 copies of the gean version. 2 for you and 2 for your wife? I will het tje xerox and submit it you. No issues, you can do it after we complete the entire process. The lady then asked to submit the documents for my wife and my kid. She checked the original certificates of my wife and my kid. All the documents were submitted successfully. I brought the xerox of work contract submitted to the lady. Then she took fingerprints for me and my wife. She asked to submit the original DD. After submitting the DD, she gave us the application acknowledgement receipt and original passports in return. She said that usually it takea upto 90 days to get the VISA approved. However depending upon cases you might get the VISA earlier also. It was already 4:00 PM by this. We were happy that finally application done successfully. Now eagerly waiting for the feedback from the CONSULATE GENERAL OF GERMANY, MUMBAI. I will keep you updated when we receive the VISA approval.
