Schedule 50 2006
What is the Schedule 50
The Schedule 50 form, often referred to as the T2 Schedule 50, is a document used in Canada for corporate tax purposes. It is specifically designed to report shareholder information for corporations that are filing their T2 Corporation Income Tax Return. This form helps the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) track the ownership structure of corporations and ensures compliance with tax regulations. By detailing the shareholders, including their names, addresses, and shareholdings, the Schedule 50 contributes to transparency in corporate governance.
How to use the Schedule 50
Using the Schedule 50 involves several key steps. First, gather all necessary information about the corporation's shareholders. This includes personal details such as full names, addresses, and the number of shares held by each shareholder. Next, accurately fill out the form, ensuring that all required fields are completed. Once the form is filled out, it must be submitted along with the T2 Corporation Income Tax Return. It is important to keep a copy of the completed Schedule 50 for your records, as it may be needed for future reference or audits.
Steps to complete the Schedule 50
Completing the Schedule 50 requires careful attention to detail. Follow these steps to ensure accuracy:
- Gather shareholder information, including names, addresses, and shareholdings.
- Obtain the latest version of the Schedule 50 form from the CRA.
- Fill in the form, ensuring that all sections are completed accurately.
- Review the form for any errors or omissions.
- Submit the completed Schedule 50 along with your T2 Corporation Income Tax Return.
Legal use of the Schedule 50
The Schedule 50 is a legally required document for corporations in Canada. Failure to complete and submit this form can lead to penalties and complications with the CRA. It is essential for corporations to ensure that the information provided is truthful and accurate. Inaccuracies can lead to audits or legal issues, so it is advisable to consult with a tax professional if there are uncertainties regarding the completion of the form.
Filing Deadlines / Important Dates
Corporations must be aware of the filing deadlines associated with the Schedule 50. Typically, the Schedule 50 must be submitted along with the T2 Corporation Income Tax Return, which is due six months after the end of the corporation's fiscal year. It is crucial to adhere to these deadlines to avoid late fees and other penalties. Marking these dates on a calendar can help ensure timely submission.
Required Documents
When preparing to complete the Schedule 50, certain documents are essential. These include:
- Shareholder agreements or records detailing ownership.
- Corporate bylaws that outline the structure of the corporation.
- Previous tax returns, if applicable, to ensure consistency in reporting.
Having these documents on hand can facilitate the completion of the Schedule 50 and improve accuracy.

Why don't schools teach children about taxes and bills and things that they will definitely need to know as adults to get by in life?
Departments of education and school districts always have to make decisions about what to include in their curriculum. There are a lot of life skills that people need that aren't taught in school. The question is should those skills be taught in schools?I teach high school, so I'll talk about that. The typical high school curriculum is supposed to give students a broad-based education that prepares them to be citizens in a democracy and to be able to think critically. For a democracy to work, we need educated, discerning citizens with the ability to make good decisions based on evidence and objective thought. In theory, people who are well informed about history, culture, science, mathematics, etc., and are capable of critical, unbiased thinking, will have the tools to participate in a democracy and make good decisions for themselves and for society at large. In addition to that, they should be learning how to be learners, how to do effective, basic research, and collaborate with other people. If that happens, figuring out how to do procedural tasks in real life should not provide much of a challenge. We can't possibly teach every necessary life skill people need, but we can help students become better at knowing how to acquire the skills they need. Should we teach them how to change a tire when they can easily consult a book or search the internet to find step by step instructions for that? Should we teach them how to balance a check book or teach them how to think mathematically and make sense of problems so that the simple task of balancing a check book (which requires simple arithmetic and the ability to enter numbers and words in columns and rows in obvious ways) is easy for them to figure out. If we teach them to be good at critical thinking and have some problem solving skills they will be able to apply those overarching skills to all sorts of every day tasks that shouldn't be difficult for someone with decent cognitive ability to figure out. It's analogous to asking why a culinary school didn't teach its students the steps and ingredients to a specific recipe. The school taught them about more general food preparation and food science skills so that they can figure out how to make a lot of specific recipes without much trouble. They're also able to create their own recipes. So, do we want citizens with very specific skill sets that they need to get through day to day life or do we want citizens with critical thinking, problem solving, and other overarching cognitive skills that will allow them to easily acquire ANY simple, procedural skill they may come to need at any point in their lives?

What are the good ways to fill out 1120 form if my business is inactive?
While you might not have been “active” throughout the year, by filing a “no activity” return you may be throwing away potential deductions! Most businesses (even unprofitable ones) will have some form of expenses – think tax prep fees, taxes, filing fees, home office, phone, etc. Don’t miss out on your chance to preserve these valuable deductions. You can carry these forward to more profitable years by using the Net Operating Loss Carry-forward rules. But you must report them to take advantage of this break. If you honestly did not have any expenses or income during the tax year, simply file form 1120 by the due date (no later than 2 and one half months after the close of the business tax year – March 15 for calendar year businesses). Complete sections A-E on the front page of the return and make sure you sign the bottom – that’s it!
