This answer is from my experience of the DMV…My husband died a little over 3 years ago. I took a copy of the death certificate to the DMV and gave it to them. He had been on disability for a broken back and pelvis and had a handicapped placard. 3 months after he died I received a new placard and figured they just hadn't gotten it in the system yet. California is slow. No biggie. Last month I received another one (renewed). Needless to say if you're in California and you cancel it, it probably won't matter and you'll get the new title anyhow. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for.They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy.The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed. Kelly makes a really good point. Finance companies are not likely to go for this. It limits who they can collect from in the event of a default.If you both own the car outright - i.e., have the pink slip, the simple solution is to have them sign their portion of the pink slip off, giving you sole control of the vehicle. Then you could take it to DMV and have it solely in your name, though I’m not sure it’s necessary.

Complete form REG 227, duplicate title, and send it in via mail. They will mail you a duplicate title. Keep in mind that only one copy of a title is suposed to exist at one time. If you have one already you dont need another one.

A duplicate title can be issued when the original has been mutilated, lost, destroyed, or never received.
