My mother is a hoarder and my father an enabler.  I moved 3,000 miles away from them in large part to avoid setting foot in their home.  Growing up in a home where you couldn't see the floor or any flat surface has effected me greatly.  I was never able to have friends visit when I was growing up because of the horrific shame I felt living in a home not only cluttered with garbage, but falling apart in complete disrepair because nobody could get in to properly service plumbing, paint, electricity, etc...  I have suffered extreme anxiety for years as well as depression.  I used to lay awake at night and suffer panic attacks imagining my parents being found dead in mountains of trash.  Many people have met my parents and they would have no idea looking at them that the live in the filth that they do.  My dad has had MRSA and my siblings have suffered multiple chronic staph infections because of the way my parents live.  I have threatened to call the health department, begged them to get help, cried and pleaded with them, but they always tell me I'm bossy, stuck up and don't know what I'm talking about. Finally, I couldn't stand the pain and heartache so I went to a therapist.  I decided I may not be able to change them, but I had to learn to deal with the shame, anxiety and depression growing up like this had caused me.  The therapist told me it's alright for me to stand my ground.  I could have a relationship with my parents where we see each other outside of their home, but I was under no obligation to set food in their home if it causes me that much trauma.  I have not been to my parent's home in over 15 years.   We still live on opposite coasts and see each other about twice a year but I'm standing firm on my bottom line and not going anywhere near that house. So long as they continue to hoard.  As far as how I live, I do find myself prone to collecting things, but I'm meticulous in cataloging them.  Everything has a place in my home.  I'm also very good about donating items when I no longer have a use for them.  If something new comes into my home, something old must leave.  I value cleanliness and organization, but I'm not walking around with a white glove checking for dust.  It's still a struggle for me at times to not become depressed or anxious thinking of my parents in that house, but I think I deal with these feelings better than I used to.  

Only by accident. Companies are looking to solutions like Android because they provide cheap affordable shortcuts compared to developing their own in-house computer operating system from scratch. So, this may lead to many appliances from several manufacturers sharing a common operating system. In this case, it is more likely Linux or Android will take the lead, since Apple has a closed platform and does not like to share its toys.However, history casts doubt on manufacturers allowing or encouraging devices to be able to communicate with each other or run the same software. Most of the time, even when two manufacturers have compatible devices, they often believe it is in their interest to limit compatibility artificially to just devices they themselves make. Hence, if I have a GE refrigerator and I want my oven to talk to it, GE would like you to buy their oven as well, so they might use 'crippleware' to make sure their fridges only integrate with their ovens.

I live in Germany. I got an invite to the Quora partner program the day I landed in USA for a business trip.
