The Graduate Program in Creative Writing has five unique areas or concentrations as we call them: Genre Fiction, Nature Writing, Poetry, Publishing and Screenwriting. The low residency model works well for people who are already engaged fully in professional and/or family and/or community lives and are not in a place in their lives to relocate. But the low residency allows them to come for a part of the year, a really immersive week, and to gather in-person with a group of writers across genres, across concentrations. Western is a really ideal place to host a graduate creative writing program on the low residency model because first of all, it's located in the most stunning place. It's in the heart of the Rockies surrounded by beautiful wilderness areas. Lots of recreational opportunities.
