it's an exciting day to be here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as we unveil the new mental health and addictions emergency department it's really once in a generation but it's also once in a career which is why it's so exciting to be a part of it the inviting calm environment of this new unit is going to make a difference in many people's lives for patients for families and for staff it is extremely important that we ensure the right services and supports are available when they are needed and we are also continuing our work to reduce the stigma that is still associated with these challenges providing a dignified and distinct space inside the ER but separate helps patients and their families pause breathe and step into safety the Mental Health crisis response team um at the QV uh has evaluated over a thousand patients a year over the past 5 years those assessments will now take place in this this calm beautiful cuffs and built and designed uh area this space is also a dream come true
