work recently wrapped up on a long-term effort to rebuild Wyoming highway 137 on the Wind River Indian Reservation WYDOT assisted in the effort the result of a unique partnership we've got the tribal communities coming together we've got local governments and we've got the Federal Highway Administration and U.S Department transportation that are part of it and without all these entities coming together this project would not be happening today you know locally a 17 Mile Road it's the busiest Highway serving local traffic on the reservation its outdated design was in need of extensive upgrades narrow and like a one to four foot shoulders drop off it was very unforgiving if you went off the road you were basically going to crash I mean the design of the road was built for the 50s a wider road with shoulders gentler curves and flatter side slopes give the road a modern safer design now complete the highway will be owned and maintained by tribal Transportation officials now we're up to cod
