The planet’s gravitational constant can be computed using observations of their moons. The constituents of the upper atmosphere’s can be determined with spectroscopic analysis of the reflected light. The planet’s overall density can be determined by computation.From there, is is fairly straightforward to estimate quite accurately what the composition and pressure gradients will be of the entire atmosphere.

When a bottle is sealed, the amount of air inside cannot change. If this bottle was sealed at ground level (about one atmosphere pressure) then the amount of air inside the bottle is that volume that has been compressed by one atmosphere pressure.When you increase the altitude (such as on a plane) the air pressure decreases to less than one atmosphere, but the pressure of air inside the bottle is still at one atmosphere (ie higher pressure). The pressure inside the bottle will try to equalise and the way this is achieved is for the volume to expand. Assuming the temperature on the plane is kept at roughly ground level temperature, you can see how pressure and volume behave.You can also do the reverse experiment. If you seal a non-deformed bottle on the plane and bring it down to ground level, you will see it get crushed. You can then visualise what is hapenning to your ear drums during descent.

The videos you can readily find online of people chopping at the side of the neck causing them to immediately fall unconscious is because of the vagus nerve being hit. The vagus nerve is sensitive and permanent damage or death can follow a strike to this nerve.The Carotid Artery:The carotid arteries run up either side of the neck supplying the head with oxygenated blood. Construction of these arteries restrict oxygen arriving at the brain and can cause an attacker to lose consciousness. Many strangulations work by restricting 1 or both of the carotid arteries. Restriction can cause unconsciousness in 6-10 seconds and if it is not released death will follow soon after.The Suprasternal Notch:The suprasternal notch, sometimes known as the jugular notch is the little pocket which can be felt between the clavicle/collar bones. Pressure here causes choking and extreme pain, damage is highly likely and care should be taken.Brachial Plexus Nerve:The brachial nerve is interesting as it isn't in the neck or head yet can still cause a knockout, it is also one of the most effective pressure points. This is taught to martial artists, law enforcement and security alike. This nerve is responsible for the entire arm and chest. This nerve can be found on the front of the shoulder at the base of the neck.”Happy training

Mark's answer is along the right lines, although I'm not aware of technology in production that infers mean sea level pressure directly from satellite images.The analysis charts that you see on the news, or online e.g. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/publ...Are actually produced by an experienced human forecaster, using the latest model output, observations and satellite images. There are a quite a few observation stations of pressure both on land, ships and buoys that can be used to verify how well the latest model runs match up with reality and then a complete picture of the surface pressure can be inferred. Forecasters can also identify centres of low pressure, fronts and other synoptic features by examining satellite imagery. Computer programs alone can't identify these things, they can have a reasonable stab using image recognition algorithms in conjunction with model data and observations, but they're not good enough to use in forecast production, although their analysis of some other variables is pretty good. If the fins are integral, pressure testing is no different from that for conventional tubes. If attached (coiled, say), detection of leak is cumbersome.

Just do it.The pressure will suck much less than after the product has an unacceptable defect count, the QA group kicks the release candidate back a few days later, it still sucks, they kick the next candidate back a few days later,  the ship date slips, management starts daily meetings to monitor the release process, the ship date slips more, meeting frequency increases to twice a day, etc.  Eventually the VP of software engineering which allowed the bad process (Sometimes at the CEO's request -  to quote one "we'll add quality later," "test code does not ship," and "only test the finished appliance") may be fired or demoted although that won't do anything for your sub-optimal experience for the years it can take to get to a sensible development environment (either because you slowly undo the damage, or the company eventually fails at which point you move on to a better job).The pressure will suck much, much, much less than after shipping a low quality product to customers after which nearly 100% of your time (60, 80, however many hours you're willing to work each week for that company) will be spent playing catchup on quality because instead of problems happening repeatably in the debugger they're occurring for multiple customers where each one may be something different and you need to grovel through artifacts to figure out which known bug that is or whether it's a new one.Dealing with executives and other managers will be easier too.  As an honest person you'll be able to tell them "the code isn't done" which is true instead of being a weasel with no effect "well, the code is done but we don't know how it works" on progress towards the customers-receive-bad-product-your-life-really-sucks alternative or lying (which you're adverse to and bad at) to delay shipment until quality is there.All of the above comes from real-world experience on commercial products.

Pneumatic tests are potentially more dangerous than hydrostatic tests because of the higher level of potential energy stored during compressing the gas. All tanks must be periodically retested depending on the material and size. Steel tanks must be hydro tested every five years. All fiber-wrapped tanks must be hydro tested every three or five years, depending on the DOT-E regulation (see below). If you are unsure, assume the tank requires testing every three years.
