What is known for sure is that a woman in New Jersey noticed some men standing atop a white van taking photos of the WTC towers burning across the Hudson River. They were gesticulating sort of wildly and the woman witnessing this thought their behavior was peculiar and she called the police to investigate. The men left the location and the New Jersey State troopers were alerted to look out for this van. It was spotted later in the afternoon and pulled over and the occupants were Israeli men who claimed they were art students working for a moving company. All four men had expired tourist visas. The FBI sent agents out to the scene and took over detaining and questioning these Israeli men. There were no bomb materials of any kind inside the van, and the photo equipment was seized for examination.Over the next three months these men were questioned over and over again. At first they all refused to take lie detector tests but later most relented. All had served in the Israeli army, and one of them did not want to reveal what it was he did in the army. Nothing of any significance to 9/11 came out of these interrogations. The men were simply deported back to Israel. The owner of this moving company, who was also Israeli, vanished, abandoning his business and his home, presumably returning to Israel. It is surmised that this moving company was an Israeli front for conducting low level intelligence on Muslim charities in the New Jersey area that Israel suspected were funding terror organizations in Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza Strip. While understandable, the United States, nevertheless, does not particularly like foreign countries conducting intelligence gathering within U.S. borders while keeping such activity secret from U.S. authorities. It is thought that this sentiment was made clear through diplomatic channels and an agreement was quietly made for such activities to desist.
