What would s/he achieve by doing that? The answer, nothing. A nurses duty is to care for and protect their patient, not ordering required tests does not achieve this.Of the many nurses I have met, none of them would even consider doing something like that. If a patient requires blood tests, blood must be drawn. If no blood is taken when it should be, the nurse in charge of that patient will likely get in trouble as they're failing to provide the required care/treatment of their patient. This is medical neglect, nurses can loose their licence and go to jail for something like this.So, No. A nurse would not pretend to take blood from a patient for any conceivable reason.

In the literal sense, yes. Cases like that are called hydranencephaly, where the hemispheres don't develop. These concern mainly kids, and I have a slight aversion for showcasing kids in such a manner. A notable example is shown below. This is an image of a child born with only a brain stem, he was born in 2013 so there’s little to say about what he can or can’t do, but most likely he will have quite some problems in life (if he makes it, since many of these kids don’t grow that old).The oldest that these kids get is a few years, with exceptions that grow to be 6 or 10. Functionally they tend to be very limited.Hydrocephalus is a different scenario where the brain is filled with fluid. Here the presence of fluid is devastating to the surrounding tissue. In the case below the mother was told three months into the pregnancy that her son had an array of health issues. Among those issues was spina biffida and hydrocephalus. This child was born with just 2% healthy tissue. The parents were told that survival was unlikely, were offered termination, and they were pretty much looking at coffins.But against all odds this one made an astonishing recovery. After three years of not knowing if he'd survive a check up revealed the brain bounced back and is now fully functional, albeit having some disability. The recovery is thought to be largely caused by the relief of pressure when the fluid build up was shunted.In a less literal sense, we can broaden this to see to what extent humans can function with the loss of brain matter. If the brain gets time to cope with the loss gradually, rather than sudden damage or never having it in the first place, things turn out differently. This last case isn't a child.There once was a 44 year old man in France who had some muscle weakness in his left leg. He couldn't find a cause and was rather uncomfortable, so he decided to go to the local hospital for help. The man led a normal life, was a civil servant, had a wife and two kids. There was nothing peculiar about him, except one thing. As an infant he had hydrocephalus (water on the brain), this was treated using a shunt that was removed when he was 14.Perhaps this wasn't very successful, it had been 30 years. So to be safe the doctors ordered CT and MRI scans and found this.Literally a head filled with water. The black areas should look like the image to the right, but instead are filled with Cerebrospinal fluid. All areas were shrunken down into the strip along the outside.This case, and the ones before, defy everything known about what it takes to be alive. Sure this man wasn't a genius with an IQ of 75, but he was functioning quite well. He had memory, speech, emotion, thoughts, the whole shebang.His case shows the incredible plasticity of the brain. If so much damage was done in a short time the brain wouldn't be able to cope and you'd die. But this case most likely took years and years to develop, giving the brain ample time to adjust and rewire essential functions. Well, our (ESE 2014 Batch) medical examination was conducted after the interview and before the declaration of the final result. The medical centers were allocated based on the permanent address mentioned in DAF.  Before 2014, they used to conduct medical examination after the declaration of the final result. There is no difference between them, just different timings and it is conducted only once. My ESE interview was on 22nd January 2015, and after the interview got over I was thinking of hanging out with some friends there for some days but after a day or two we all got a mail mentioning the dates and venues of our medical examination. It was quite frustrating and surprising for us. Mine was scheduled on 2nd Feb, 2015 at Central Hospital, Maligaon, Guwahati. So I had to book tickets soon (obviously tatkal), came from Delhi to Kolkata and then headed for Guwahati. I signNowed Maligaon on 2nd Feb at 2am. It was quite chilly outside. I was too tired to move, was sleepy too. I could not see any means of transportation outside the station at that time. So I kept on waiting at the station and at last there  it was, a rickshaw. I told him to take me to a nearby hotel and he acknowledged so by nodding. He took me to a hotel, yes it was closed at that time, called them, no one picked up.  Then another, no vacant bed. Then another, same story. I told  him to leave (he already did more than what was he asked to) when I found some policemen there on the roadside and decided to ask them for help. I told them my purpose of visit. They were quite cooperative and helped me find a decent hotel nearby the Central Hospital.  So it was almost 5am when I signNowed the hotel and I dozed off instantly. Could not sleep more though, had to wake up soon enough as the reporting time was 9am. Woke up, freshened up, drank a lot of water ( just to make sure urine test goes well :D ) and had some light breakfast. I took a huge water bottle with me and headed for the hospital. signNowed the hospital at 8.46 am (yes, that was the exact time ) and saw some of the candidates were already there at the hospital premises. Some came alone, some came with their parents. We 9 were present there for medical examination that day. Slowly we started interacting with one another and were discussing what might gonna happen in the medical test in a light mood. Little did we know that the administration was gonna give us a hard time. Sometime later we figured out that medical examination was never scheduled at Maligaon Central Hospital before. That was the first time and as a result the concerned administration was quite messy and inefficient. We kept on waiting, lunch time was over and they were still busy with the paper work and all. Time was 4pm, still nothing. We all got angry, agitated, frustrated to the core and approached the medical officer there. He seemed least bothered about the delay. And the first two words out of his mouth, just dumbfounded us. "Come tomorrow". Like seriously? We had booked our respective train/flight return tickets for the same day. Who'd compensate for that? After a short discussion we decided to call the railway board and told them about the whole scenario. The response from the railway board was quite satisfying, they understood our problem and gave us assurance of prompt action. And yes! It did work. It was 4.40 pm and the medical officer came to us and assured that the medical examination would happen that day itself. So after all those hassles and infinite waiting period our medical examination started at 5pm. What a sigh of relief! We filled up some forms and completed the necessary paperwork. First test was x-ray. It was over in a jiffy. 2nd test was urine test (disgusting and dirty bathroom, felt like vomiting). 3rd test was physical fitness test(height, weight(tip: underweight people stuff yourself with enough food and water ;) :) , chest expansion, BP and all) . 4th was ENT test. Then last and the most important, the Eye Test which was quite exhaustive.  And it all got over by 7pm. Just a few phone calls to the railway board made all that possible. So after our medical  examination got over, the medical officer called us to his office and apologized to all of us for the inconvenience. He also assured us his further assistance in case we needed any. So we left the hospital at around 7.30pm after completing the final paperwork and leaving our contact for further communication.  Yes it was quite a long day for all of us!P.S: 5 out of 9 candidates were in the final list of ESE-2014 :)

Wow... A lot to choose from. I'll go with one that I don't often share with people though. At least, I don't share the ENTIRE story with everyone.Shortly after getting out of the army I was really out of control. This was a point when I was still denying that I had a problem, still had some money and was still being prescribed hundreds of oxycontins (the real ones) and oxycodones every month. And I was partying and going nuts because if I wasn't high, not only did I hurt physically but, reality caught up to me quickly.One day I was house sitting for my parents when they were out of town. I called and asked if I could BBQ and have a couple friends over. Sure, no problem.Well, I slammed a couple beers, railed a few oxycontins, slammed some more beers, railed some more oxycontins and don't remember the rest of the night.My friends filled me in the next day.I punched out one of the windows in the house for no apparent reason. I hit on my friends little sister. I started body slamming people for fun and when several of my friends decided it may be a good idea to just knock me out for the rest of the night, for my safety and everyone elses, they forgot to take into account that I just got out of the army and was still in great shape and all the extra training I had in hand to hand stuff because of who I worked with. And the fact I was on so much painkillers that I was not feeling any pain. So eventually they stopped and just left me alone.Then I got the guns out. I shot all kinds of things in the back yard and back field. Thankfully, my parents live way out in the country surrounded by woods. But, I shot in half several trees. Shot holes in some decorative things. Shot the legs off a swing set. It's fortunate that I didn't hurt or kill anyone.I also smashed several pictures in the house. I'm sure that's from some deep seeded resentment somewhere. I don't know.I then got naked and ran around the house, or rather crawled I guess and tried to hump everything. Everything from the floor to the doors.Of all of that, I only remember drinking a beer at the beginning of the night and railing a couple oxycontins.The next thing I remember was what embarrassed me the most until I heard the rest of the stories years later. I woke up face down on the kitchen floor in one of the largest piles of vomit I've ever seen and an even larger pile of diarrhea all over the kitchen floor.I crawled to the bathtub, hungover and still a little drunk and ran a bath and laid in my own filth. Then I heard the voice of a girl I'd had a crush on since kindergarten. She had heard what happened and stopped by to check on me. Yeah, she saw the kitchen. Then me in the tub in my own filth. No blaming the dog there. I deserved every bit of shame I felt.Many may see that incident as a wake up call. Nope. I saw it as one more thing to burry. I just lost control is all. Just need to limit myself a little better. Cut back on the alcohol. Even my friends begging me to get help didn't do it.Help for what? I didn't have a problem....Hindsight is 20/20 as they say. I can tell these stories now in hopes that others may read them and avoid my mistakes. Learn from them.Hope everyone is doing well! Take care!
