Departments of education and school districts always have to make decisions about what to include in their curriculum.  There are a lot of life skills that people need that aren't taught in school.  The question is should those skills be taught in schools?I teach high school, so I'll talk about that.  The typical high school curriculum is supposed to give students a broad-based education that prepares them to be citizens in a democracy and to be able to think critically.  For a democracy to work, we need educated, discerning citizens with the ability to make good decisions based on evidence and objective thought.  In theory, people who are well informed about history, culture, science, mathematics, etc., and are capable of critical, unbiased thinking, will have the tools to participate in a democracy and make good decisions for themselves and for society at large.  In addition to that, they should be learning how to be learners, how to do effective, basic research, and collaborate with other people.  If that happens, figuring out how to do procedural tasks in real life should not provide much of a challenge.  We can't possibly teach every necessary life skill people need, but we can help students become better at knowing how to acquire the skills they need.  Should we teach them how to change a tire when they can easily consult a book or search the internet to find step by step instructions for that?  Should we teach them how to balance a check book or teach them how to think mathematically and make sense of problems so that the simple task of balancing a check book (which requires simple arithmetic and the ability to enter numbers and words in columns and rows in obvious ways) is easy for them to figure out.  If we teach them to be good at critical thinking and have some problem solving skills they will be able to apply those overarching skills to all sorts of every day tasks that shouldn't be difficult for someone with decent cognitive ability  to figure out.  It's analogous to asking why a culinary school didn't teach its students the steps and ingredients to a specific recipe.  The school taught them about more general food preparation and food science skills so that they can figure out how to make a lot of specific recipes without much trouble.  They're also able to create their own recipes.So, do we want citizens with very specific skill sets that they need to get through day to day life or do we want citizens with critical thinking, problem solving, and other overarching cognitive skills that will allow them to easily acquire ANY simple, procedural skill they may come to need at any point in their lives?

Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I was selected for a summer internship 2016.I tried to be very open while filling the preference form: I choose many products as my favorite products and I said I'm open about the team I want to join.I even was very open in the  location and start date to get host matching interviews (I negotiated the start date in the interview until both me and my host were happy.) You could ask your recruiter to review your form (there are very cool and could help you a lot since they have a bigger experience).Do a search on the potential team.Before the interviews,  try to find smart question that you are going to ask for the potential host (do a search on the team  to find nice and deep questions to impress your host). Prepare well your resume.You are very likely not going to get algorithm/data structure questions like in the first round. It's going to be just some friendly chat if you are lucky. If your potential team is working on something like machine learning, expect that  they are going to ask you questions about machine learning, courses related to machine learning you have and relevant experience (projects, internship). Of course you have to study that before the interview. Take as long time as you need if you feel rusty. It takes some time to get ready for the host matching (it's less than the technical interview)  but it's worth it of course.

This is going to be my first answer on Quora. This is a topic that my friends and I debate pretty much every day. First I am going to describe the last couple of times I have tried to approach a girl in person and what happened. These are just the LAST 2 times. I can go on for days but I will try to keep this answer as short as possible.1- I was in a nice Italian restaurant in Long Island. The vibe there seemed very friendly and people were open to conversation. Against my better judgement, I decided to experiment. Made eye contact with a pretty girl (on the outside) sitting at another table. She was with her friends, and I was with mine. Figured I would give it a shot. I did not want to walk up to their table, so I brought our waiter over to send a message. As a little light icebreaker, I asked him to go over to their table and buy them a round of water. I thought this would lighten the mood and perhaps open up a dialogue. I also wrote a little note that said something along the lines of, “This one is on us, you guys look fun, and we would like to get to know you. Can we buy you guys a real round at the bar after dinner?” Cute right? Well it was not well received by her. The waiter was laughing and putting the waters down, pointed to us and said “this round is on them”, and dropped the note at the same time. Within about 15 seconds, as the drinks dropped, and she read the note, SHE DUNKED THE NOTE IN THE WATER, CRUMBLED IT UP INTO A BALL AND THREW IT AS HARD AS SHE CAN AT MY HEAD, AND IT HIT ME SQUARE IN THE FACE! Her friends were cracking up laughing and my crew was basically embarrassed in front of the whole restaurant. Talk about ruining a dinner with the boys! We laughed about it at the next place.2- I was at a brunch just recently. A group of girls approached me and asked me to take a picture of them. I then told the girl that I run a blog for local businesses nearby and I would like to showcase the photo for the blog, and if she can please text it to me. She smiled and said sure. I got the text with the phone number and pic. I then proceeeded to tell her that I do not run a blog, although I have my own business, and I was just saying that because i thought she was cute and I wanted to get her phone number, and at that moment I thought that was pretty cute. She laughed. I asked the crew if they wanted a drink. They said yes. I am doing well right? Wrong! I walk up to the bar and order 6 15 dollar drinks some sweet things and bring them over with my buddies. We thought we were going to hang with them for at least a few minutes. The second they got the drinks it was like they didnt know us anymore, and they basically turned their backs to us and carried on with their night. Then I was sitting outside on my car, and they were walking out. I simply said “goodbye girls”. They all walked right past me like I didnt even exist. Waited a few feet down from me for their Uber, and left like I didnt exist. I know they heard me because they were literally RIGHT THERE.There were just the LAST 2 times.Why would I continue to suscept myself to this? Wherever we go, the girls are in their little corner taking selfies and videos of themselves, and ignoring all the guys around them, in their own little world. They will then most likely post these pictures to instagram, and immediately get hundreds of guys drooling over them. To me that is one of the issues. They dont need the guy to compliment them in person, they would rather get the gratification electronically. Literally every time we go out, the girls are spending more time recording Snapchat videos and taking pictures of themselves then socializing with THEMSELVES, let alone other men. Then, when men approach them, they shun them to make themselves feel better about….themselves?I simply ask a girl at the gym if she is using the equipment she is near, and I get dirty looks! OK I get it, you guys dont want to be approached by guys for whatever reason but there is no reason to be mean for simply asking a question !Women are getting great jobs, and becoming less dependent on a man. I am really happy for women in this regard as a lot of women are very bright career wise and have a lot to offer companies. However I do think this is another reason for the disconnect. The power is getting to their heads. I get the whole “miss independent” vibe, but there is no reason to get angry at a man for saying hello.OK so women got these jobs and they are doing great! I HAVE NEVER, IN MY 32 YEARS OF EXISTENCE, BEEN BOUGHT 1 DRINK BY A WOMAN….BEEN BOUGHT DINNER BY A WOMAN. A woman has never even paid for the parking lot at the venue we go to when I take one out.They dont need to meet men in person anymore. Just upload a bikini photo onto your tinder and BOOM! You got 500 matches to choose from. Although they think this is the way to go, they are actually dilluting their options. And these are THE SAME WOMEN THAT COMPLAIN THAT THEY CANT FIND A “GOOD GUY”!!I am a good guy, come from a good family parents are still married and their marriage is beautiful. I have my own business, never been in trouble, and treat everyone with respect. My grandfather told me once “it doesnt cost anything to be nice”- seems like women forgot this cardinal rule.I dont know, I am very discouraged the way dating is going nowadays. I continue to put myself out there and I get shunned most of the time. What happened to the days where you say hi to someone and they say hi back?? Rather than looking at you like you have 10 heads for addressing them, and being an inconvenience to them? SMH maybe I am growing up in the wrong time.
