How do I prepare for the UPSC exams after 12th?
First of all, if you have made up your mind to go for civil services exam, stay determined and stand for your decision. Stay away from all negativity or pessimism. Now coming to how you should prepare. Get syllabus of the exam and read it thoroughly. Then do the following.Firstly, the golden rule to the IAS exam is to start with the basics and this is really very important. Start reading NCERT books of the prescribed syllabus such as History (old ncert), Geography, Civics etc. These will help you develop a basic understanding and clarity of the concepts. It will also lay a foundation for the advanced study. NEVER skip NCERTs, never!!!Secondly, develop a habit of reading newspaper. Any one good newspaper like The Hindu or Indian Express would do. This will help you get an overview of daily happenings and you would be able to relate things with your syllabus and exam pattern. Don't stress out on current affairs as most probably you would be appearing three years from now on. Just try to understand how things work in day to day life when it comes to Polity, Environment, Economics etc.Third, keep in mind the syllabus and exam pattern. Never study unnecessary stuff. It's more important what not to study than what to study. Don't just create a library at your home. Use study material wisely, and since it's your beginning, don't jump the gun. In enthusiasm to gather more knowledge, many freshers just buy books by tons. Avoid this.Fourth, use social media efficiently. Believe me from social media you can learn a lot provided you follow right track. “Like” pages of genuine newspapers like The Hindu, Down to Earth, preparation portals like Insights on India and Unacademy (avoid Zee News, Republic TV like non-informative pages). We open Facebook (assuming you didn't deactivate it after Cambridge Analytica scandal) many times in a day but we won't open the above mentioned sources more than twice a day to be honest. But on Facebook you can read things on the go and learn as well. This is enough for now. Many things will follow as you will go through the preparation.Best of luck. In case you follow this suggestion and crack IAS exam, mention me in your speech :)

What's your opinion on school food?
Since I grew up in America, my answer is going to be centered on American school lunches.I think that they can be improved in two ways: Being more nutritionally dense, and having children be more involved with the school lunch process.A lot of current American school lunches while being filling, lack vital nutrients, and are instead very sodium laden.“A 2008 analysis of school lunches by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) concluded that American kids consume very few fruits and vegetables in their cafeterias—with potatoes accounting for a third of all vegetables consumed. IOM also found that kids were eating many refined grains and too much saturated fat and sodium. “How to Improve American School LunchesI would say this is a pretty accurate representation of a good to excellent American school lunch. Here's how school lunch in the US stacks up against what's served in the rest of the worldFrom my honest recollection, usually what would be served up regularly was square (never, circular, or triangular, mind you, this is very important, I can not emphasize this enough), square pizza. Some type of “different dish”, and chicken nuggets. Well actually, my memory is starting to fail me now, so I will link to what the current menu this month for my old elementary school is.Not too bad, but there could be room for improvement, a lot of pizza, chicken nuggets, which is all well and good, but these, these ghastly things.Okay, I am aware this is kind of a weird video, but it is an authentic representation of what I, and many other kids, ate in middle school and high school. Now, recently, I saw a video on the school lunch system “Kyushoku” in Japan.I thought the differences in nutrition were staggering. The Japanese lunch had rice, vegetables, and even fresh fish, which are very nutritionally dense. In addition, many of the ingredients are fresh, and students are more involved in the process of making the school lunch.8th grade students visiting a domestic farm where their school orders some of their produce from. For their work experience, they are separating edamame for tomorrow’s kyushoku.Which brings me to my next point; I believe we can improve American school lunches by having the children be more involved in the process of making their own lunches. Here, the students all take turns serving each other lunch. I think this is a very respectful and polite thing to do for others. In addition, these students are also required to clean up after themselves, and tidy up the area after they are done eating. I think this is a great lesson in discipline, responsibility, but also Home Economics. Learning how to properly clean a kitchen or living area is an often overlooked, yet fundamental skill that kids should learn early on.Another thing I appreciate is how varied the school lunches are. This school tries not to offer the same dish twice in a month. Although, kids being kids, often would request their favorites over and over again, in this case being curry. I don’t know if all schools in Japan offer such a diversity in options, but I think this is also a beneficial gift to the students in developing their taste palates, and helping to keep their bodies strong and healthy. The importance placed on school lunches comes from the view that school lunches are a part of the curriculum themselves."Japan's standpoint is that school lunches are a part of education," Masahiro Oji, a government director of school health education, told the Washington Post in 2013, "not a break from it."Japan's mouthwatering school lunch program is a model for the rest of the worldI can’t help agree, because eating healthy helps increase your learning skills, as well as mood. Fully integrating healthy meals can help with all other aspects of school life, including concentration, happiness levels, and even socialization. The average cost of these lunches are about 2 dollars a meal. With the school covering staff and kitchen costs, and parents covering ingredients. If the parents are low-income and cannot afford the everyday costs, they must apply for social welfare meal plans at the school. The child will still receive the exact same meals as other kids. The screenshots from the previous video is actually of an average public school, not an exceptionally rich one either. In fact, this school is in the poorest of Tokyo’s wards. From this, we can assume the lunches shown above are of the bare minimum requirements for a proper kyushoku, as more well-to-do families often have more time and money to spend on improving their children’s schooling experiences.All-in-all, without spending more money, we can still improve our school lunches in America bya) Including more fresh, domestically grown produce and poultry into every meal.b) Including our students more in the lunchtime process, from farm to lunch table. What’s also ironic is that the Kyushoku system got official after 1946, when G.H.Q recommended systematic health education, and the school lunch program in Japanese schools. The Japanese government took note, and starting providing school lunch to 250,000 children in the Tokyo metropolitan area. This later expanded to all over Japan.Much funding at the time came from relief aid provided by foreign governments and charities. When Japan later regained full independence in 1951, the funding stopped. The Minister of Finance wanted to get terminate school lunch subsidies. However, this was strongly opposed by many people in Japan, and in 1954, school lunch law was enacted, with school lunch being a part of the school curriculum. So I think it’s very cool that Japan once took America’s advice and greatly improved their school lunches. And now America can take advice from our friends over in Japan, and we can all improve our school lunches together!Thank you. :)Anmitsu at Hatsune (初音) - Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman Episode 1Now please enjoy this refreshing photo of Anmitsu.

How does WBJEE counselling work?
WBJEE counselling procedure is very much similar to the counselling procedure adopted in JEE MAINS. After obtaining a rank in the exam interested candidates will be required to generate username and password and will have to pay the registration fee. This registration fee will be non-refundable,which is around 500. After registration candidates will be required to fill their choices online through the website. After declaration of round 1 result a candidate will be left with 3 choices. 1- accept the seat and take admission in the allocated seat.2- consider the candidate for up-gradation to higher filled choices.3- surrender the seat and pull out yourself from the counselling procedure.candidates will have to report to the reporting center within the specified period of time and will have to submit their choices failing to do so in round 1 will automatically remove you from further consideration and you will loose your seat. For choices 1 & 2, candidates will have to pay seat acceptance fee which will be returned in further rounds if you opt for choice 3( but will have to report to the reporting center, otherwise the candidate will not be able to claim it). This procedure will be repeated for three rounds and extra rounds can be introduced if the counselling team feels the necessity of it.In last round you will be forced to either accept the allocated seat or surrender your seat.

Would it be all right to name your kid Yahweh? I’m not religious but find the name to be beautiful.
NO!Yahweh is not a good name for a child. Why not? I can guarantee, unless you live in an incredibly remote area of the world, your child will meet at least one Jew in his/her lifetime. Jews, even the most reformed ones, will be offended when people write or say the name of their god aloud. They use all sorts of euphemisms. The second reason is, even if there are no Jewish people where you live, children will taunt your child. And your little one will have to fill out all kinds of forms when they are older. If your child says at his/her job interview that his/her name is Yahweh, would people take him/her seriously? No.My school name is Amanda, and I get taunted for it. That is such a normal English name. Imagine how worse it would be if the name was something outrageous.Thirdly, how would you like to be called ‘God’?Notes:Some people have asked me why I get taunted for the name Amanda. My name is pronounced in fake accents. It rhymes with panda. And it's not my official birth name.Others have asked me, if it's not acceptable to call your kid Yahweh, then why are some Hispanic people named Jesus? Well, if it's pronounced ‘hay-zoos', it's a standardized and traditional name, so it's acceptable. Yahweh, and a name pronounced ‘jee-zus', is not.

What is the biggest scam that every Indian must be aware of?
Recently I have come across a possible scam about counterfeit/fake products in India. Counterfeit/fake products are nothing new to Indian Society. These products are easily available in markets like Pallika Bazar (Delhi), Fashion street (Mumbai) etc. You can get first copy products of many branded companies included Puma, Nike, Adidas, Reebok (shoes, t-shirts etc), Micheal Kors, Guess (hand bags, Purse). There are markets where you can easily get copies of branded wrist watches and even perfumes. But people who buy products from these markets are aware of the fact that these are duplicate products. No, No… This is not the scam I am talking about. The scam starts from next level. It involves giant e-commerce websites including Snapdeal. The people who lives in India are pretty much aware of this e-commerce website and the discounts which it offers on multiple products including clothing, electronics and many other things.Recently, I was surfing on Facebook, then there was an advertisement regarding sales on Nike Shoes. It obviously got my attraction. I was amazed to see the discounts on shoes. Some discounts were close to 60% of the market value. It was a great deal. I thought of giving it a try because I did not want to miss the deal. And I am sure many people like me might have got attracted to same deals and bought the shoes from the website. I received the product within 3 days. When I opened the package, I was shocked to see that the shoes were duplicate (I am a regular user). I showed it to one of my friends, he told that “Shi to hai yaar, tujhe aise hi lag rha h” - (It is good bro, you are having false doubts). But still I wanted to get it tested from official Nike store to confirm. I visited the Nike store and they confirmed my doubt. The shoes were fake. I contacted Snapdeal regarding this problem. They told me that I can return the product and they would be refunding my money. But then I asked, what are you going to do to seller who is sending fake products using your website. He replied with standard answer - “We will look into this matter. We take extreme care before onboarding any seller. Blah Blah…..!!!” He even told me that the seller was Authorised Nike Dealer. Then, I understood the whole concept behind the huge discounts on branded materials. These websites are full of such kind of sellers. The sellers provide huge discounts on branded products (though they are cheap fake products which are easily available in market at no more than Rs. 500–700). They sell these products at Rs. 2000–3000 by showing the original price equivalent to Rs. 6000–10000 (Equivalent to original prices in showrooms). This is how these sellers are looting people by selling them fake products. It it hard to notice if the products received are fake or original for new users as they look exactly the same in every manner. Since they are coming from a trusted channel (like Snapdeal), nobody sheds a doubt and may take them as original. Now, you must be thinking why these website allow such sellers on their websites. The reason is simple, it increases the number of sales on their websites and WHO DOES NOT WANT THAT. After all, the investors are looking for these sales figures.I hope you understood the scam. Beware when you buy such items from e-commerce websites. You might be their next victim. Here are few tricks to avoid buying fake products:When you are buying from these website, look at the original price on which discount is being applied and the visit the official website of that brand. If the price is same, then it may or may not be original but if the price is different, I would suggest you to stay away from that product.Whenever you buy expensive branded products, just get it confirmed from an official store (if you can). It is completely useless to throw away your money on fake products unknowingly. Here some photographs related to this incident:Link to the product on Website: Nike Air Max 2017 Running ShoesLink to the Product on Nike Website: Look what I found at Nike online.

Why do some drivers insist on parking in handicapped spots when they aren't handicapped?
I know when I got my handicap placard in CA back in 2005, the paperwork CLEARLY stated that you were ONLY qualified for the handicap placard if you were blind, had limb amputations (I believe for lower extremity it was only required to have 1 limb amputated, for upper extremity I think it was 2), had heart problems classified as severe (they have a specific cardiac output that must be met), have a severe respiratory disorder (required to be at a certain level on pulmonary function tests and/or requiring of oxygen, etc). Another qualification for MOBILITY impairment (which is what many people claim) is that you CAN NOT walk 200 feet without the use of an assistive device such as a cane, crutches, walker or wheelchair or having to stop and sit down to rest. This does NOT mean that because you require a cane for support just in case, that you NEED to park in the spot CLOSEST to the door of the store so that you can then go in and walk around the ENTIRETY of the store and conveniently have your car right outside the door when you are done! To me, that is ABUSE of the system! Now, if you parked in the same spot, took your cane inside and used a store scooter to do your shopping and get assistance back out to your car so someone can help load the groceries and not further fatigue you, that is a completely DIFFERENT story, and is EXACTLY what that space was designed for! Now, with that said, I don't "police" those spaces or the people that use them. I give them the benefit of the doubt because I DON'T know what they are going through. What I will do though is if I see a person park and they don't have a placard or a plate displayed, I will roll down my window and kindly remind them that they forgot to put their placard up. If a person HAS a placard they are always very grateful, and if they DONT have a placard they kinda look like they stick their tails between their legs and go re-park their car. By addressing them in a non-judge mental, non-confrontational manner, people are not off put by my question because they don't see me as questioning their validity. I have never had a situation escalate with this tactic.
