I was emancipated from my parents at age 14.There has to be a paper trail of history of abuse, misconduct or inappropriate conduct like neglect. You can't just get in a mood and say “you want to run away, how do I get my parents to kick me out”.At age 16, you are legally allowed to live on your own. Your parents don't have to kick you out.Myself, both parents were alcoholics, my father was physically, mentally, emotionally and financially abusive. Wouldn't buy groceries, he'd buy booze. I had 2 outfit's to wear to school for an entire year because he wouldn't give any money for Mum to help support us. My eldest sister left to go to a private school that she got a “scholarship” for through a church. Myself, 18 months younger than her, I had to stay. He would wake me in the middle of the night to fist fight. See, I am 6′1″ at that age and he was 5′9″ so he felt that he needed to challenge me to a fight every day to prove his “manhood”. This had gone on for 3 year's straight.I sought help finally from a guidance counselor at my high school. I had done so previously, but they all called my parents who of course denind the claims. This one counselor didn't…she listened and looked at the evidence I had on my body. The documents I had been keeping as a journal with pictures.She got me the information I needed. I was only in grade 9. By the beginning of grade 10, I lived in my own and was emancipated. Renting a room from a lady. I went to school during the week, from 8:30am-3:20pm. From there I went to my daycare job where I watched 3 handicapped children for 4 hour's a day 3:30–7:30pm at $20 a day. I then went to my second education of going to Hairstylist/beauty school night classes for 4 hour's 8pm–12am. On weekends I worked as a cashier from 6am-4pm at a gas station, then from 6–10 at a grocery store. My Marks were in the high 80-low 90’s. I was making $5 an hour at my jobs which was higher than minimum at that point. So, it covered my room and food. I was able to work off my modelling classes at the agency by being the in house stylist and makeup artist.It wasn't easy. I left because of abuse and neglect, VERY SERIOUS reasons. So, it was safer and I went through the emancipation very quickly because the judge saw my evidence and history.The judge makes restrictions on you that are hard but possible. You have to keep your marks up. You can not miss class. You have to be able to support yourself without student aid. It is there to help some kids who desperately need it. I could have used some help, but I had already been in a parental role since I was a child with 2 defunct parents. So I wanted to do it on my own.My hairdressing career, makeup artistry and modelling career took off at age 15. By 18, I owned my own business and the rest is history.Please think about this before you do anything. Everyone is rebellious toward their parents rules at some point. You don't just leave for something that has upset you.You can legally move out on your own at age 16, that was the law at the time in Canada. Your parents are not responsible for you or your finance's if you choose to leave. You don't need emancipation from a judge. You will have to check with your area.The first step, if you choose to do this, is to see your guidance counselor at school.

It truly depends on the circumstances upon which you are basing this move. It also depends on your ability to support youself financially, and handle adult responsibilities effectively. Unless your girlfriend is eighteen or older (not too much older, I hope), she would have to be willing to put everything in her name because you may not be allowed to sign a rental lease or put utilities in your name at your age. If your girlfriend does not have proof of adequate financial means to afford the monthly rental rate on her own, then her rental application will be denied. There a many complications in that area alone.There are tons of emotional and psychological issues to ponder here too. Most sixteen year olds think they are more than ready to venture out on their own, but they find out quickly how demanding and frustrating supporting themselves can be. In this instance, you are also adding a complex relationship into the equation. Relationships can be stressful by themselves, and can become strained and unhealthy with the pressures of survival in tow.I don't know your situation or the motivation behind this venture, so I have only mentioned some of the very basic concerns that come to mind. If you and your parents feel that you are mature enough and capable of handling those living arrangements at age sixteen, it may be fine for you to try living with your girlfriend. I would definitely consider all aspects, both good and bad, that might become potential issues before making such a costly decision.I also don't know the particular laws in your state regarding minor children (under 18 years old) and their living arrangements. You might want to look into that, as there could be laws that prevent cohabitation at your age, even with parental consent.

You can likely find this out by calling the Michigan state DMV. But if memory serves the title is your proof of ownership. There might be a fee to transfer it to the state your from but it can be done in your home state. On the back of the title there should be a place for the seller to sign and you also have to sign to show transfer of ownership to you.
