To my knowledge, there has been no link made between amalgam fillings and periodontal disease.Peridontal disease is a chronic inflammatory process affecting the hard and soft tissues that support your teeth. When plaque and tartar stay on and around the teeth too long the repsonse is swolen, bleeding gums and eventually loss of bone.A well placed and maintained amalgam filling should not produce or contribute to periodontal disease. Removing an amalgam filling like this will not address the underlying cause of gum disease.

The filling will fall out as the tooth substance around it disappears, but this will not actually have anything to do with the filling.The filling can be made too high to fit into your occlusion when chewing. You might not even notice it. If the corner of a composite filling is too high it will break. It will not fall out completely, but the occlusal margin will break.The tooth might break around the filling. This might be caused by the filling, but it can happen for other reasons. This should be considered when the filling is made, to minimise the risk.The filling should me made as soon as possible if you have a small cavity which clearly needs filling. The general rule is: Small fillings, small problems, big fillings, big problems.The conclusion is: prepare the tooth correctly before filling, chose the right material for every filling, make the filling according to the material’s requirements, ensure that the filling has exactly the right shape, and keep up a good oral hygiene after the filling is made. Then there is a good chance the result will be as I said in the beginning: a well made filling will not fall out.

Yes it does fill a gap in access to dental care. I would like to talk about this in indian perspective. Here we have lot of dentist in metros & cities. Many dentists or dental student say dentistry is saturated in india. But what about people from rural areas or people from low socioeconomic strata. Majority of us do not care about them. We open up our clinics in good posh area of city, more focused on patient from middle class & upper class. The reason behind is, these middle class & high class people have awareness for oral health. This population do consider oral health as an integral part of overall health. So it is easy to provide them treatment. One donot need to give more time & patience on educating the patient. For this population mobile dental clinic is of little use. Whereas school dental health programme is of great use. As we need to create awareness in the children & teenagers about the oral health. Mobile dental clinic can be used to screen patient in these population or epidemiologic study.Now coming to rural population or low socioeconomic population. In this group one has to create awareness for oral health.For this mobile dental clinic is very important.Screening & oral prophylaxis can be done.Atraumatic restoration techniques can be used.Single sitting restoration can be done.Extraction of grade 3 mobile teeth can be done.Population can be educated about the importance of having all teeth. So that they will care about the replacement of missing tooth or teeth.New parents & perspective parents can be educated about the early childhood caries, nursing caries, rampant caries, feeding habits.Preventive dentistry can be provided to children. Fluoride application, pit & fissure sealant application can be done.Patient education about the ill effect of tobacco & smoking.Patient can be taught about brushing technique.Mobile dental clinic can be used for mass education.Patient requiring further treatment can be referred to dental hospital or dental office.So, mobile dental clinic is very important factor in educating patient, specially those who cannot visit dental office periodically. The only disadvantage, This is what i experienced, it may be wrong to generalise the whole population on this basis, is : Once you provided the service through the camp or mobile dental clinic, some patients think that treatment has been done. They do not come to hospital for further treatment. They do not understand that treatment we have provided them with mobile dental clinic is not the complete treatment. If we have asked them to come to hospital it means further treatment is needed for complete cure. If pain has subsided they think they do not need further treatment.It is not possible for us also to visit the same area every month, so patients have to come to hospital for complete treatment.

Hi. I am from Kathmandu and I wore braces for more than two years. My friend used to wear them around the same time as well. I got mine done at Samaj Dental Clinic in Baneshwor Kathmandu and honestly, I don't have much to complain. Try finding reputed ones at Kathmandu. Hope it was of some help.
