Departments of education and school districts always have to make decisions about what to include in their curriculum.  There are a lot of life skills that people need that aren't taught in school.  The question is should those skills be taught in schools?I teach high school, so I'll talk about that.  The typical high school curriculum is supposed to give students a broad-based education that prepares them to be citizens in a democracy and to be able to think critically.  For a democracy to work, we need educated, discerning citizens with the ability to make good decisions based on evidence and objective thought.  In theory, people who are well informed about history, culture, science, mathematics, etc., and are capable of critical, unbiased thinking, will have the tools to participate in a democracy and make good decisions for themselves and for society at large.  In addition to that, they should be learning how to be learners, how to do effective, basic research, and collaborate with other people.  If that happens, figuring out how to do procedural tasks in real life should not provide much of a challenge.  We can't possibly teach every necessary life skill people need, but we can help students become better at knowing how to acquire the skills they need.  Should we teach them how to change a tire when they can easily consult a book or search the internet to find step by step instructions for that?  Should we teach them how to balance a check book or teach them how to think mathematically and make sense of problems so that the simple task of balancing a check book (which requires simple arithmetic and the ability to enter numbers and words in columns and rows in obvious ways) is easy for them to figure out.  If we teach them to be good at critical thinking and have some problem solving skills they will be able to apply those overarching skills to all sorts of every day tasks that shouldn't be difficult for someone with decent cognitive ability  to figure out.  It's analogous to asking why a culinary school didn't teach its students the steps and ingredients to a specific recipe.  The school taught them about more general food preparation and food science skills so that they can figure out how to make a lot of specific recipes without much trouble.  They're also able to create their own recipes.So, do we want citizens with very specific skill sets that they need to get through day to day life or do we want citizens with critical thinking, problem solving, and other overarching cognitive skills that will allow them to easily acquire ANY simple, procedural skill they may come to need at any point in their lives?

I happen to have a high school alum-friend who is a pilot. He is passionate about flying and devotes his life to helping others get safely to destinations all over the U.S. The profession is lucrative; he has a wonderful wife and four beautiful children, life is good.If you feel excited at the young age of 20, then I envy you. You are studying something that you are naturally passionate about, great for you! I am certain you will be a wonderful asset to the flying community!You have a meaningfulness that you most likely don’t even recognize in yourself - but I do (being a different generation). Why do I say that? Because you are happy outside of the digital world, at least that’s how I’m reading your words. YOU ARE A LUCKY PERSON!!!! You really, truly are! I read sad posts from young people who are 20, ,their best friends are their phones, they have no idea how to socialize let alone navigate outside their technological world.Obviously, you will use technology 24/7 as a pilot, and you will be fully connected to the world in the business of an airport, etc. Perhaps you feel disconnected now because you are studying so hard, but that too shall pass. You have a meaning to your life, you just don’t recognize it yet, trust me on that.Good luck to you! I am excited for your future!

THE BATTLE OF THE SEXESThere are definitely numerous SEX differences between men and women, they are not just different, but extreme opposites to each other, which means the genders can NEVER be completely equal. Nonetheless, men & women DO complement each other very well in a fairly crucial and harmonious way, a state known as “Unity of Opposites”, or in Latin Coincidentia oppositorum, a philosophy held by many ancient cultures. Consequently, making Life incredibly beautiful filled with joyous vitality.The main reason for this phenomenon is, in Nature, the reproduction rules for males & females have been set in opposition long long ago, eons, around 1.5 billion years, so nobody can change it now or foolishly just ignore it. As evolution of Life progressed with time, these sex differences became more and more distinct. There is no real right or wrong here.Likewise, men and women too have different sexual natures, apparent in their typical sexual behaviors, attitudes, feelings and conceptions, but partially concealed by perceived morality, societal norms and compromises inherent in relation between the sexes. These sexual differences became further reinforced by human evolutionary history, particularly during the “hunter and gatherer” phase, the sexual desires and dispositions that were adaptive for men obstructed reproduction for women, while those that were adaptive for women obstructed reproduction for men.Sex differences are generally referred to as traits that are sexually dimorphic in Nature and has strong biological basis to this claim, as it has been hypothesised, these sex differences are products from evolution of Life via a process called sexual selection.As sexual reproduction evolved much later from asexual reproduction, it can be considered that the male sex is the more differentiated (specialised) sex compared to females. This means males evolved to have a very distinct biological reproductive function/organ, that is possessing limited but very vital role of fertilisation and a distinct external genitalia consisting of a copulatory organ, the penis that delivers numerous viable spermatozoa cells that have ability to fertilise the female’ ovum (eggs). This ensures successful procreation in every organism that breeds sexually.Thus, it can be considered in someway, “males evolved from females”. It is the female organism which has a more direct role in reproduction and if any organism were to revert back to asexual breeding, then it is only the females which become this asexual organism,( i.e. whiptail lizard species that reproduce asexually have only female members). Similarly, in humans the reason ALL males start life AS females (at least for the first 6 weeks of Life) and IN females (mother’s womb). Female is like the “default” setting in all embryos, unless they possess the Y chromosome with SRY gene, then that embryo will differentiate to become male.The “more evolved” the organism is (i.e. from fish to mammals), the more distinguished and obvious the sexual dimorphism becomes, as routinely seen among mammals and birds. Sex being genetically determined among mammals and birds.Thus, as humans are considered the “most evolved” of all organisms on earth, we also in some way are the most sexually differentiated organism as males and females—most probably resulting in the numerous sex differences existing in humans.There are 5 factors that determine biological sex in humans at birth, they are—the presence/absence of Y chromosome (genetic sex), the type of gonads, the primary sex hormones produced, the type of internal reproductive(uterus) anatomy and type of external genitalia (penis).However, to make a very general claim in assuming men are superior to women or even if vice-versa is an extremely inaccurate and highly debatable statement to make, which does not hold water in actual fact. It could be perceived as true by some people, but it is very much a basis made on many varied perceptions on the meaning of “superiority or being superior”. Furthermore, the genders are fundamentally different in so many aspects of life, like comparison of apples and oranges, so the views may vary as a true comparison cannot really be achieved.It is also worth noting that superior does NOT always equate to being advantageous or somewhat privileged. There is really no such thing as a free lunch in the world particularly in this day and age.Example, generally men a physically fitter than women and this may be thought to be superior in someway, but this also means men have higher expectations in society like, to defend someone else whose usually seen as vulnerable, to carry out a courageous act like defending the country or to perform physically demanding tasks. So, is that really an advantage? Furthermore, higher risks are attached to such societal expectations of men, commonly even sacrificing their own lives. Thus, can it still be perceived as superior? Quite subjective I suppose.Masculine and feminine can be understood only in terms of each other; basically they are opposite and complementary qualities. They are like day and night OR darkness and light. It is very hard to understand darkness except in relation to light, likewise, light except in terms of darkness. They are TWO extremes on a continuum spectrum with no real discernible point of change.Hence, I will list down various unique masculine features in humans, involving the various aspects of Life, mostly based on scientific evidences, philosophical discussions or logical observations of Nature, which I personally consider to be fairly superior traits in men compared to women. However, many people, particularly women may differ and have a different view/perspective all together which is perfectly fine too.Men have greater reproductive ability than women. Men can easily have many more children if desired and the reproductive cost is extremely cheap compared to women. So, reproductive success is more in favour of males.Constant production of numerous male gametes, at 1500/sec rate, most gametes produced have fertilisation ability. Thus, men can help increase the population numbers effortlessly especially in times of hardship/increased stress like war or famine.Men remain permanently fertile for the rest of their life and generally with no signNow drop in sperm numbers even at an older age. This gives men more independence and less constrained by time in forming committed relationship or family. So, men can be more autonomous in choosing the path of their future life.Men possess distinct external genitalia, mainly the fairly large erectile penis which gives them more freedom and dominance sexually during coitus over women and the whole sexual intercourse is quite solely dependent on men, especially in relation to the duration of coitus and its climax point.Male orgasm is quite essential and naturally selected via evolution as it has a pertinent biological function in relation to sexual reproduction unlike the female orgasm.Man is the giver of the “sacred biological gift” to create Life (his seminal fluid) whilst the woman is the receiver. The man being the giver is more independent and has more voluntary control of his sexuality compared to woman, who’s solely dependent on man to fall pregnant.Men have a fairly constant libido and rarely have any fluctuations in their hormone levels once puberty has been completed, so they can breed successfully anytime all year round.Men are more motivated by sex than woman, as men have double brain space and processing power devoted exclusively to sex alone. This area starts to form as early as 8 weeks old (as an embryo). Generally, men have 3 times stronger libido compared to women.Men usually not only have much higher sex drive than women but men are also willing to take more risks to incur the cost of sex. In addition, men more often initiate sex and rarely refuse it, inverse to women.Men use medial preoptic area of the hypothalamus and amygdala which guides the performance of sexuality and creates motivation for sex respectively, most probably the reason men conflate sex and aggression. Hence, most men get sexually aroused by stressful/competitive situations as a result, also both sex drive and aggression are dependent on levels.Men’s sperm counts increases & replenishes fast with multiple sexual partners or in the presence of male male competition but depletes when copulating with a single same sexual partner.Likewise, their sexual drive is also renewed and revitalised with the introduction of a new female sexual partner due to hardwired biological reasons in the male psyche.Men are biologically designed to have multiple sexual partners and less likely to form long sustaining emotional attachment compared to women, as commonly seen in most male mammals in Nature. Thus, men can very easily separate love from lust and when needed, both can be combined too.Studies show that men, irrespective of sexuality regret sexual inaction (lost opportunities to have sex) while women regret sexual action (taking the opportunity to have sex ), this difference in sexual behaviour results from evolved opposing mating strategies in males and females.Men generally have a more stable emotion and behaviour. Compared to young men, teenage girls get more hysterical towards male celebrity/famous idols, usually more obvious than adult women due to high erratically fluctuating hormonal levels. Same reason women’ are more at risk of mood swings than men.Men are generally taller and heavier than women, as men have more muscle mass and less body fat compared to women. These traits can also be further enhanced visually by a thick beard.In general, men are better suited for high impact physical activities like extreme sports and more likely to be involved in physical aggression but lesser risk of acquiring any major injury than women.Men have more prominent thyroid cartilage and larger vocal cords resulting in much louder vocalisation with lower pitch, an attractive male sexual trait too.Men eat faster than women due to bigger and more powerful bite combined with stronger muscles of mastication (chewing). But also need more calorie intake due to increased muscle mass and higher basal metabolic rate.Men typically have larger trachea and more branching bronchi, have bigger dimension of rib cage compartment, and during quiet breathing have higher tidal volume, minute ventilation and more abdominal contribution to the tidal volume, all these factors create a larger lung capacity than women.Men have larger hearts, more blood volume and higher blood pressure to pump blood to the whole body efficiently. This gives men many more distinct types of appearance options compared to women.Additionally, men are naturally attractive with no real need to wear any make-up or expensive attire and even look equally or more handsome as they get older due to the amazing virile vitalizing effects of .Men have thicker retina compared to woman, and have more M cells that are responsible for tracking movement of objects. Men have greater central vision compared to peripheral vision helping them focus on a target well, i.e. men are good at throwing darts.Men can block certain sounds automatically, i.e. blocking white noise (unwanted noise and repetitious acoustic stimuli) when listening to a specific music, due to effect on fetal auditory system.Men hear less accurately compared to women because females have 11% more neurons in the hearing and language centers of the brain and can hear broader range of emotional tones. So, some of the most intelligent persons in the world are actually men.There are 2 emotional systems in humans –mirror neuron system (MNS) responsible for emotional empathy and temporal-parietal junction (TPJ) responsible for cognitive empathy that focuses on analytical problem solving, men and women start in MNS but men switch quickly to TPJ, which makes men less emotional and have more cognitive empathy than women.Men are more primed in finding solutions to problems without letting emotional factors interfere or influence the decision, thus, men have better judgement and insight, increased utilisation of rationality/intellect and can be quick to be very decisive even in stressful situations.In the cerebellum, men show higher inter-hemispheric neural connectivity while females showed higher intra-hemispheric connectivity. This shows men have superior motor control related to efficiently coordinated action, like hand—eye coordination.Men perform better on spatial processing and sensorimotor skills and on average men outperformed women in learning and accomplishing any single task, i.e. cycling/navigation. Moreover, paternal care plays a very crucial role in the upbringing and balanced development of children especially boys.Men are often seen as object of success and their loyalty lies primarily in honour, hardwork and sacrifice, commonly seen in a patriarchal society/army/navy/all boys’ college, etc.Men’s personality is usually are more optimistic, rational even while being less agreeable and generally less anxious/neurotic in facing conflicts with others. This is due to the superiorly adapted ability of males in encountering fight or flight reaction, in Nature, this helps men resolve conflicts quickly and effectively in any circumstances.Socially, men are better in forming long lasting permanent alliances and friendship with other men that usually abides by the Brocode. This is because, men are simple and very frank creatures with straightforward minds, a very good thing actually. Because they don't overthink or complicate situations. They actively avoid pointless arguments and forgiveness can be easily achieved among mates. Most importantly they refrain from gossiping or back stabbing their mates in ANY situation.Men have greater mathematical reasoning, mentally able to find geometric forms in complex patterns and rotating objects, than women. Likewise, men solve problems faster, use movement to think and less use of words/verbal cues in explanation of answers.Men are also more science and technology orientated as most men have ‘systemizing brain’ —making them better suited for engineering, mathematics, research, computing fields, etc.Men are more aligned with intellectual abstract thinking, analytical & truth seeking, rather than having a more solipsistic view of the world like most women that usually relates to emotion and frequently associated to art, music, dance, etc. In other words, men prefer to see how they can relate to the world and study its very nature, explaining men’s deep interest in scientific and investigative subjects.Men are better in taking responsibilities, more accountable for their actions, can cope with stressful situation successfully and usually blame any failure to their own lack of effort, whilst women tend to claim their failures are due to lack ability and often blame their gender for this. This naturally gives men more drive to progress and succeed in Life.Women mature both physically and mentally earlier than men, around the age of 18 but have a much narrow mental ability because vital skills associated with parent care is more relevant to be mastered by women. However, men continue to mature mentally until around late 20s (27–30), so having a deeper mental maturity and reasoning ability, usually resulting a more passionate interest in intellectual and worldly subjects involving politics, science, philosophy, etc.Men tend towards a more justice based morality than care based as men have a more Utilitarian reasoning. This is largely because males have less affective response based on feeling alone and do not completely reject all harm based behaviour but do have some inclination towards stricter law and order.Men are also more reward sensitive and less sensitive towards punishment or shame when carrying out any action/task. Men are more result/end product/goal orientated and unlike women, men are less concern with the process and effects of their action per se.As seen from this fairly long list, although there are still many more perceived ‘superior masculine features’ that’s not included here, in my true opinion, men do have many advantages in various aspects of Life, primarily in relation to physical ability, intellectual capacity and sexual potency. In addition, men have distinct admirable masculine qualities like independence, courage, assertiveness, strength and leadership potential.All men should be very thankful and extremely delighted being born as males, I certainly do, as I’ve NEVER had any regrets being a man in my entire life.This “male privilege” concept as commonly perceived by many, is not only in humans but also in various types of organisms in the animal kingdom, as males play a very vital role in steering evolution in the right direction while constantly proving the immense success of sexual reproduction in Nature, perhaps more so than previously thought. Thus, it should not be ignored, demonized or eliminated completely in a society, as that would appear completely nonsensical and ludicrous.The wholeness of a man means living the fullness of his masculine potential. This implies that all the essential male traits are manifested and personified actively, integrated into a functioning, unified Self.Masculinity is NOT a problem to be controlled but rather a gift bestowed by Nature to be properly enjoyed & cherished by ManThe societal duty of the man, or the masculine aspect of personality, is to strive to become an intelligent being , and freely forgo his sexuality for an abstract love of the Absolute, God, which he finds within himself.What is Life without the great males??? Surely a very boring one OR more likely a non existent one,… perhaps GOD is really a male after all…
