The main shelter for Dallas Animal services overwhelmed with dogs right now. 161% capacity I started here 3.5 years ago and this is the fullest I've seen a dire situation not seen in more than three years. The shelter is seeing an average intake of 57 dogs and cats per day, but positive outcomes like adoptions or even the fostering of a pet much lower. As a result, dogs have to share kennels which increases stress and the chances for illnesses to spread. That's not what we want. We want everyone to have their space and be comfortable. It's as if the animals even know many of the dogs that are coming in are coming in as strays. It can be heartbreaking and I know that it weighs on the staff and the volunteers to see the dogs that are waiting for homes. But pops like Kermit here brighten up when they feel some fresh air, something they get a lot of in a new home.
