so i wanted to give an overview before we we dig into some of the more in-depth types of plans and processes to give an overview why are we talking about watershed planning why is it so important describe different types of watershed plans go through some of the the new normal the usual steps of the watershed planning process and then talk a little bit about next steps and how this conference will hopefully pull some of this information together so why watershed planning when you look at a picture like this which is a harmful algal bloom in the well kill river it's pretty obvious but i think it bears going into and asking the question why are we doing watershed planning so a watershed is the land area where water flows to a specific water body it takes in rain and streams and groundwater and all of that water will flow to one common place watersheds are defined by topography and they are the geographic unit that's best suited to understanding conditions and managing water bodies again
