An introduction to Aquinas on the Incarnation (III, 2) There are a lot of classical reflections on the mystery of the Incarnation, in relationship with errors or, as they are called in Greek, heresies, that have arisen, regarding the thinking about how God is human, and what does it mean to say that Christ is God. Aquinas analyzes some of the main heresies, and tries to dissect what has gone wrong, and how we ought not to think about them. Let me just mention three of them that he treats with a special prominence. So, one that he pays a special attention to, is “arianism”. “Arianism” is the thesis that Jesus is, in fact, not God, but that there is a pre-existent Son of God, and a pre-existent Word of God, who exists before the existence of the physical world, but who is Himself a creature. So, Jesus is, as it were, an emissary of God, who has been sent into the world, who existed before the foundation of the physical world, but is Himself a creature. That is a strange view, but
