I’d ask a member of your local chapter, but generally, you can either help with donations or through volunteering. If you are able to to cut a check for the organization, I would highly recomend it. It is a local charity that helps actual people in your community, and most, if not all, of the money goes towards their cause, unlike other charities who may have a large overhead. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed.
