I’m not sure why it matters if I’m a parent or not, but I will piggy back off the response provided by Matthew Bates:If a child does not eat at school just because the government is shut down, it’s because the parents did not provide a lunch or the money to purchase a lunch. An apple and a peanut butter sandwich are pretty cheap to provide, but heck, let’s let the government do it for a lot more money than the ingredients actually cost.Matthew Bates suggested, at the end of his response, that he will be labeled cold-hearted, selfish, or un-empathetic because of his opinion, and I suppose that label can be assigned to me, as well.It would be helpful if more people would educate themselves about what the F & R Federally-Funded Program actually means. Here are a few bullet points:The federal form that one must fill out in order to qualify for free or reduced-price (F & R) meals at school (breakfast and lunch) does NOT require proof of income. Additionally, the form conveniently provides an income table that shows the upper cap on income in order to qualify.Once a child is approved (a process in name only; everyone who signs the form is approved), not only are meals free for that family, but everything else at school is, as well. This means field trips, supplies that appear on the school’s website as listed by each teacher or grade level, and fees, such as a technology or copying fee.While the meal program is a Federally-funded one, the mandate to cover the cost of everything else, as well, is NOT funded by the Feds. So it’s up to the individual school districts to come up with the money, something that they pass on to their schools, usually covered by fundraising.Over the last 15 years of my teaching career, when I really started paying attention to how people were using F & R, I have observed the following:One dad, a successful journalist, applied for F & R based on the fact that he and his common-law wife had never legally married, and she was a stay-at-home mother. He told me, with obvious pride, that he was entitled to benefits like this provided by his own tax money.A single mom of one son enrolled him after the school year had started. On the day she brought him to school for the first time, she handed me her F & R form and asked me to make sure it got to the office for her. She was wearing very expensive designer jeans and heels and carrying a designer purse. I watched her walk away and get into an Escalade before driving off. Her son later told me that they lived with his mom’s boyfriend.For those of you who like to label some of us as cold and unfeeling, please keep in mind that, just like everyone else, our attitudes are shaped by our experiences. When you see abuse of a system, over and over, it is very easy to become cynical. Even those who live in poverty at my school talk about how it pays to just keep having more children because you get money for each child you have. I have overheard conversations like this while on duty outside at the end of the day. “You can come early, you can leave late, you can take work home with you, but don’t try to do all three.” That’s the advice I was given early in my teaching career, and I found myself violating this rule several times a year. This is a sample:Preparing lessonsChanging lessons you just delivered in the hopes they will be more effective next time.Documenting, not just a percentage grade, but whether a student meets, exceeds, approaches, or is well below a few dozen learning standards or objectives.Differentiating lessons for different levels of readiness. For example, some of your 7th graders read on the same level as typical third graders, others read like high school or college students. Your lessons need to be meaningful for all of your students and encourage all students to grow. But it will only work on your home computer, so you have to export it as a pdf, email it to yourself, and print it at school.Trying to improve a child’s classroom behavior by communicating with parents who think their parental duty is to argue with you.Communicating with parents who do not want their bright child to be challenged, they just want their child to get A’s.Reviewing, discussing, changing, adding, removing, trying to implement, or documenting that you have implemented special measures for disabled students.Creating a template for students who are not doing well to create a plan to improve their grade, checking to see which students have finished writing their plans, which parental signatures you still need, then preparing grades for those students, so they can discuss with their parents whether their goals were realistic, and whether they took the steps required to bring up their grade.Meetings, endless meetings. Especially meetings where someone who used to be a teacher tells you that you should be doing the things that you would be doing, if you weren’t stuck in a meeting.Cleaning sunflower seed hulls out of desks.Partially filling out disciplinary forms with the names of the usual suspects and their usual disruptive behavior and photocopying the forms, so you can more quickly get back to teaching when the behaviors occur.Filling out forms to request necessary classroom equipment be repaired and unnecessary classroom equipment be removed, knowing full well that you’ll probably lose that battle.Throwing out 25 years of material that the last three or four teachers who had the classroom before you hoarded.Explaining how every expenditure of your classroom supply budget will directly impact student achievement, or giving up and ordering it from a non-approved vendor on your own credit card because it’s easier.Planning field trips. Counting field trip money, accounting for it, rolling the coins, noting the names and amounts of students who need change, contacting a bus company to reserve three buses, calling them back to cancel one of them. Taking ten late permission slips and explaining to the child who brings the 11th that there are no more seats on the bus.

They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for.They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy.The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed. I received this wonderful response back with lots of useful links on how to find and report your scammer. I was selected for a summer internship 2016.I tried to be very open while filling the preference form: I choose many products as my favorite products and I said I'm open about the team I want to join.I even was very open in the  location and start date to get host matching interviews (I negotiated the start date in the interview until both me and my host were happy.) You could ask your recruiter to review your form (there are very cool and could help you a lot since they have a bigger experience).Do a search on the potential team.Before the interviews,  try to find smart question that you are going to ask for the potential host (do a search on the team  to find nice and deep questions to impress your host). Prepare well your resume.You are very likely not going to get algorithm/data structure questions like in the first round. It's going to be just some friendly chat if you are lucky. If your potential team is working on something like machine learning, expect that  they are going to ask you questions about machine learning, courses related to machine learning you have and relevant experience (projects, internship). Of course you have to study that before the interview. Take as long time as you need if you feel rusty. It takes some time to get ready for the host matching (it's less than the technical interview)  but it's worth it of course.
