They are integral components of STD, tuberculosis and HIV prevention and control programs around the nation. They have also been called throughout the years to respond to emerging threats like Ebola, Zika, as well as outbreaks and clusters like Hepatitis A, C, and HIV. The unique skill sets and role intervening in the spread of diseases came into the spotlight in 2020 as a critical component of our nation's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
