When unmarried parents have a child the father's name is not automatically listed on the birth certificate. These parents must complete a Voluntary Acknowledgement of Paternity form to have the biological father added to the birth certificate. This establishes the child's paternity. Paternity means to be someone's  father and by having the biological father listed on the child's birth certificate, it makes him the legal father. Children need emotional and financial support from both parents and a legal father may be involved in important decisions about his child. For example children can only inherit certain benefits from a legal father. If something happens to the father the child may be eligible for life insurance, Social Security, and veterans benefits and sometimes they can even inherit money  or property. Also a legal father may be able to put the child on his health insurance policy at work. I bet you think it's really difficult to establish paternity right? Actually it
