What an Additional Service Unit Is and when it’s used

An Additional Service Unit is a supplemental service line item or authorization used to record, price, and approve work, services, or deliverables added to an existing agreement or invoice. It documents scope, quantity, unit rate, and effective dates for the added service and creates an auditable record for billing, acceptance, and dispute resolution. The form is commonly attached to master service agreements, purchase orders, change orders, or invoices to ensure all parties agree to the new work and associated charges before execution.

Why a clear Additional Service Unit matters

A well‑completed Additional Service Unit reduces billing disputes, clarifies scope, and provides a concise record for accounting and compliance. It supports contract enforcement by documenting intent, consideration, and signatures tied to the additional work.

Why a clear Additional Service Unit matters

Who prepares and who signs an Additional Service Unit

Typical preparers include project managers, accounts payable/receivable teams, and contract administrators who need to record changes to scope and cost.

  • Project Managers and PMOs — create and attach units to change orders and schedules for approval and billing.
  • Finance and Billing Teams — validate rates, apply correct GL codes, and route for invoice consolidation.
  • Contract Administrators and Legal — confirm compliance with master agreements and signatory authority before execution.

Use the signer guidance and authorization rules in this guide to confirm who is authorized to approve and sign the Additional Service Unit.
