What an Agent Change Notification Is and When It’s Used

An Agent Change Notification documents the replacement or appointment of an agent who represents an individual or organization for a specific purpose, such as a registered agent for corporate filings, an authorized contact for permit management, or an agent designated for service of process. The form identifies the outgoing and incoming agents, the effective date of the change, contact details, and any required authorization from corporate officers or owners. Some jurisdictions require submission to a Secretary of State or similar office and may require notarization or witness signatures to complete the record.

Why the Agent Change Notification Matters

A correct Agent Change Notification ensures official records point to the right representative, maintains legal service chains, and avoids missed notices, administrative fines, or service delays. Proper completion helps preserve corporate good standing and protects deadlines for regulatory or legal processes.

Why the Agent Change Notification Matters

Who typically prepares and reviews an Agent Change Notification

Companies and organizations, registered agents, legal counsel, and administrative staff commonly prepare and submit these notices when agent duties shift.

  • Registered agents and commercial agent services handling official correspondence and service of process.
  • Corporate secretaries, compliance officers, or company executives responsible for state filings and good standing.
  • Attorneys or paralegals who review authorization language and ensure statutory compliance before filing.

Keep a copy of the completed notice in corporate records and provide confirmations to internal teams and external service providers.
