WH AT IS A S MALL CL AIM S CASE ?A small claims case is a sim plified ty pe of court case in wh ic h a person can att e mpt to recove r money or p ersona l pr op ert y wo rth $10,000 or less. If you r claim is ove r $10,000, you can sti ll use small claims court b ut you must give up the right to coll ect the a mou nt ove r $10,000. The$10,000 fig ur e doe s not i nclude inter est or court costs .You do not need a lawyer in a small claims ca se , alt houg h you may have one if you wish.
