What an Article Order Form Is and when it’s used

An Article Order Form is a structured document used to request, brief, and authorize the creation or delivery of written content such as articles, blog posts, white papers, or editorial pieces. It captures assignment scope, deliverables, deadlines, payment terms, rights and licensing, and contact information for requestor and writer. Organizations use the form to reduce ambiguity, create an auditable record of the agreement, and specify review and approval steps. The form is suitable for single articles or batch requests and can be completed on paper or digitally with an electronic signature for legal effect.

Why using a formal Article Order Form matters

A consistent Article Order Form clarifies expectations, protects intellectual property rights, documents payment and delivery terms, and creates a defensible record for disputes or audits.

Departments and individuals with editorial or procurement responsibility complete the form before work begins.

  • Content managers and editors who brief writers and approve final content.
  • Procurement or vendor management for external freelance or agency engagements.
  • Finance or accounts payable for invoicing and payment authorization.

The completed form becomes part of the contract record and should be retained according to applicable retention rules.
