What the Background Check Livescan Packet Is

The Background Check Livescan Packet is a standardized set of forms and authorizations used to request electronic fingerprinting (Livescan) and submit resulting background check data to licensing boards, employers, and regulatory agencies. It typically includes consent language, identifying information, agency ORI or tracking numbers, instructions for the Livescan vendor, and any payment or billing details. The packet is designed for digital or in-person completion, may be submitted electronically to the requesting organization, and supports secure retention and audit trail requirements for compliance with industry and federal rules.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Missing or incorrect ORI/tracking numbers often route results to the wrong agency and require resubmission.
  • Name or DOB mismatches versus government ID are a leading cause of fingerprint mismatches and processing delays.
  • Low-quality fingerprints or improper capture technique may force a retake and extend completion time by days.
  • Failing to sign consent or provide required ID at the Livescan site typically results in rejected service.

How Electronic Submission Typically Works

Electronic Livescan workflows combine packet completion with vendor capture and secure transmission to the receiving agency.

  • Prepare Packet: Applicant completes and signs consent and ID fields.
  • Vendor Capture: Livescan technician captures fingerprints per packet instructions.
  • Transmit Record: Vendor transmits electronic fingerprint data to state/federal repositories.
  • Result Delivery: Agency or employer receives electronic background results and audit record.
