What the Broker Service Request Is and When It Applies

A Broker Service Request is a standardized form used to ask a licensed broker to provide services such as market representation, listing, placement, or transactional brokerage on behalf of an individual or organization. The document identifies parties, describes requested services, defines scope and term, and records proposed compensation and special instructions. It also lists supporting exhibits and authorizations needed for onboarding. In the United States this request can be executed electronically consistent with ESIGN and UETA for interstate and most intrastate transactions, provided any statutory exceptions are respected.

Why a Structured Broker Service Request Matters

A clear Broker Service Request reduces ambiguity about scope, fees, and responsibilities, provides a record for compliance and audits, and speeds broker onboarding and performance tracking.

Why a Structured Broker Service Request Matters

Who Typically Completes a Broker Service Request

Common users include clients seeking representation, in-house procurement teams, property owners, insurance policyholders, and financial officers preparing to engage outside brokers.

  • Individual clients requesting brokerage services for property, insurance, or securities.
  • Corporate procurement or legal teams managing vendor selection and engagement terms.
  • Small-business owners onboarding a broker to market, sell, or procure goods and services.

The completed request becomes a working authorization and the basis for any subsequent broker agreement or engagement letter.
