What a Business Addendum Template Is and When It Applies

A Business Addendum Template is a short written attachment that modifies, clarifies, or supplements an existing commercial agreement without replacing the original contract. It records agreed changes such as adjusted pricing, extended deadlines, scope revisions, or additional terms. Addenda reference the original agreement by title and date, specify the effective date of changes, and are signed by authorized representatives of all affected parties to become binding under the controlling agreement and applicable electronic signature laws.

Why Use a Standardized Business Addendum Template

A consistent template reduces drafting errors, preserves the original agreement’s intent, and creates a clear signature record for later enforcement. Properly completed addenda help avoid disputes by explicitly stating what changes apply, when they take effect, and which contract provisions remain unchanged.

Why Use a Standardized Business Addendum Template

Who Typically Prepares and Signs Business Addenda

The Business Addendum Template is used by a range of business roles involved in contract management and procurement.

  • Procurement and Contracts Teams: prepare addenda to reflect negotiated scope or payment changes during renewals or amendments.
  • Sales and Account Managers: issue addenda to adjust pricing, delivery dates, or optional services after customer approval.
  • Legal and Compliance Officers: review and approve wording to ensure consistency with regulatory and corporate policies.

Use role-appropriate approval workflows and record retention policies to ensure the addendum is enforceable and auditable.

Step-by-Step: Filling and Executing a Business Addendum

  • 03
Review: Obtain internal legal and finance approvals before signing.
  • 04
Execute: Have authorized signatories sign and retain a dated copy for records.
