What a Business Assessment Offer Is

The Business Assessment Offer is a formal written document that outlines the scope, deliverables, timeline, and fee structure for a preliminary business assessment provided to a prospective client. It sets expectations for the assessment process, defines what materials the client must provide, and specifies ownership of findings and recommendations. In many cases it functions as a non-binding proposal or offer to contract, and may be incorporated into a subsequent engagement agreement. Parties can sign electronically under U.S. law (ESIGN, UETA) when the document contains required disclosures and evidence of signer intent.

Why a Clear Offer Matters

The Business Assessment Offer clarifies deliverables, timelines, and fees before a formal engagement, reducing misunderstandings and speeding approval. It provides documented client consent for assessment activities and helps internal teams plan resources and schedule priorities in a consistent, auditable format.

Why a Clear Offer Matters

Who Typically Uses a Business Assessment Offer

Typical users include consultants, assessment teams, procurement managers, and small-business owners arranging pre-engagement evaluations.

  • Consulting firms preparing paid assessments for new or returning clients.
  • Internal strategy teams documenting discovery scope and required client inputs.
  • Procurement or vendor managers comparing third-party assessment offers and fees.

Deliverables

Timeline

State expected start date, major milestones, review windows, and final delivery dates. Tie milestone dates to responsibilities for both client and assessor to enable scheduling and resource allocation.

Fees and Payment

Attachments

Client data samples, system access matrices, and prior reports are typical attachments. List required files and acceptable naming conventions to reduce processing errors.
