What the Business Categories Form is and why it matters

A Business Categories Form is a structured record used to classify a company by industry, legal entity type, ownership status, and relevant certifications. Organizations use it for vendor registration, procurement, contracting, reporting, and eligibility verification for set‑asides or diversity programs. Typical entries include legal name, NAICS or SIC codes, federal tax identification number, minority or veteran ownership flags, and applicable state or federal certifications. Accurate categorization affects tax treatment, reporting obligations, supplier diversity qualifying status, and which procurement opportunities an organization can lawfully receive.

Why completing a clear Business Categories Form helps your organization

A completed form ensures accurate classification for taxes, compliance, and procurement. It reduces processing delays, prevents incorrect withholding, and supports eligibility for contracting programs.
