What the Business Challenges Document Is and when it helps

A Business Challenges Document is a structured assessment used to capture an organization’s operational, strategic, and technical obstacles in a concise, evidence-based format. It summarizes pain points, impacted processes, stakeholder priorities, measurable impacts, and proposed mitigation options so leadership can prioritize resources and make informed decisions. The document can be internal or shared with advisors, vendors, or boards to guide solution selection, procurement, and project planning while establishing a clear baseline for progress measurement.

Why documenting business challenges matters

A clear, standardized Business Challenges Document improves decision quality by aligning stakeholders, reducing duplicate analysis, and creating an auditable record of issues and proposed actions. It helps prioritize limited resources and supports vendor evaluation and procurement processes.
