What the Business Charging Facilities Document Is and Covers

The Business Charging Facilities Document is a written agreement and technical specification used to authorize, document, and govern electric vehicle charging infrastructure at commercial properties. It typically defines parties, site scope, equipment specifications, electrical capacity, installation responsibilities, permitting and inspection obligations, billing and payment terms, uptime and maintenance standards, and data-sharing or telemetry requirements. The document also allocates liability, warranty coverage, and procedures for commissioning, decommissioning, and future upgrades.

Why a Clear Charging Facilities Document Matters

A well-drafted Business Charging Facilities Document reduces ambiguity by assigning technical and financial responsibilities, accelerates permitting and utility coordination, and minimizes disputes over cost allocation and service levels.

Why a Clear Charging Facilities Document Matters

Who Typically Prepares and Signs This Document

Several stakeholders prepare or sign a charging facilities document depending on project scope and ownership structure.

  • Property owners and landlords responsible for site access and capital approvals.
  • Property managers and facility operators handling day-to-day maintenance and access control.
  • EV charging vendors, electrical contractors, or third-party operators supplying equipment and services.

Signers should be authorised representatives with decision-making authority for contracts, site access, permits, and ongoing operations.
