What the Business Cloud Foundations Agreement Is

A Business Cloud Foundations Agreement is a baseline commercial contract that defines the relationship between a business and cloud service providers or internal cloud teams. It lays out the scope of services, roles and responsibilities, data handling and security requirements, service levels, uptime expectations, change control, and basic IP and confidentiality terms. The template also includes operational annexes such as data processing, backup and recovery, incident response, and compliance obligations to help organizations adopt cloud services consistently across projects and vendors.

Why a Standardized Cloud Foundations Agreement Matters

Using a standardized Business Cloud Foundations Agreement reduces negotiation time, clarifies security and compliance responsibilities, and creates a repeatable baseline for procurement and technical teams. It also helps ensure contractual alignment with regulatory obligations and internal policies.
