What the Business Discovery Kit Is

The Business Discovery Kit is a structured intake and documentation package used to gather the core facts, systems, stakeholders, and compliance items needed to evaluate or onboard a business. It consolidates corporate identity, financial snapshots, operational processes, contract inventories, and regulatory checklists into a single, searchable file set designed for review by advisors, legal counsel, or internal teams.

Why a Business Discovery Kit Matters

A kit reduces time spent chasing basic information, lowers onboarding errors, and creates a consistent baseline for risk review, vendor selection, or transaction planning.

Why a Business Discovery Kit Matters

Who Typically Prepares or Uses This Kit

The Business Discovery Kit is used by internal teams and external advisors to collect consistent business data before decisions or transactions.

  • Small-business owners and founders preparing for investment or financing
  • Accounting, legal, and consulting teams conducting diligence or advisory work
  • IT and operations teams documenting systems, access, and integrations

Use the kit as a central reference during diligence, vendor onboarding, audits, or strategic planning to avoid repeated information requests.

How to complete the Business Discovery Kit, step by step

Follow this simple sequence to gather, validate, and finalize the kit with minimal rework.

  • 01
Gather documents: Collect formation, tax, and contract records.
  • 02
Populate fields: Complete each fillable field precisely.
  • 03
Internal review: Have legal and finance validate entries.
  • 04
Finalize kit: Sign, date, and distribute completed files.

  • Failure to note regulated data (PHI, student records), which can create immediate compliance obligations under HIPAA or FERPA.
