What the Business Operations BOOMS Form Is

The Business Operations BOOMS Form documents planned changes or major operational milestones within an organization, including approvals, responsible departments, and implementation timelines. It standardizes submissions for audits, internal controls, and cross-functional coordination, and records who authorized each change. The form typically captures a summary of the proposed change, impact assessment, required resources, routing for approvals, and implementation checkpoints to ensure traceability and consistent review.

Why a Standardized BOOMS Form Matters

Using a standardized BOOMS Form reduces miscommunication, speeds internal approvals, and creates an auditable record for compliance and handoffs. It helps maintain consistent review criteria across departments and supports retention policies required by regulators and internal governance.

Why a Standardized BOOMS Form Matters

Who Typically Prepares and Reviews a BOOMS Form

Teams submit BOOMS Forms when operational changes require cross-department review or formal approval. Use the form to surface impacts, dependencies, and required signoffs before implementation.

  • Operations teams and project managers who identify and document scope, schedule, and resource needs for changes.
  • Compliance, legal, or risk teams that evaluate regulatory impact and contract implications prior to approval.
  • Finance and procurement reviewers who verify budget, vendor impacts, or purchase authorizations associated with the change.

Keep a single completed BOOMS Form in the project folder and route copies to stakeholders listed on the form for transparency and auditability.
